Problem logging on to EDF.

On computer today I did a disk clean up using standard PC facility.
now I cannot seem to log on, I go through the procedure and screen just goes back to how it was before I entered login details. Weird. No error msg. No confirmation msg.
I want to post some items for sale but can't until this is resolved.

From iPhone I am logged on (daren't log off now though in case I lose access completely), hence I'm writing this.
So, it seems like something up with my connection via PC.

Any suggestions !?
I am non-tech BTW.

Try logging on from a different browser kk

Just tried with IE, what I think is Safari (Apple?) and Google Chrome.
Exactly same outcome for each browser.
Darn !

Very curious. You can log in to other sites ok? Can't think of anything forum specific which would cause this. The fact that you used some clean up software is what makes me wary and suspicious it's Pc specific

I suspect if you logged out of phone and logged in you would be fine

Just tried eBay and there was a warning that sevurity certificate had expired.
I had something similar on EDF earlier.
I'll run Anti-Malware and see if this is something naughty.

I doubt it's malware. I suspect the cleanup software has just been clumsy

Maybe try clearing all cookies and cache from your browser directly. Im guessing the cleanup software did that in it's own peculiar way and may have corrupted some files.

So does that mean never access EFF from PC again !?

Do try clearing cache and cookies from within the browser tho. Then try logging in again

OK Malware scan said zero infected.

Will try what you said - what options do I need to clear cach and clear cookies ?

Depends on browser and I'm not near a screen. But basically wherever the settings/options are. Dig around in there

Ok will do.
I'm getting Security Alerts talking about security certificates and security certificate having expired or being not yet valid (when I try other sites than EDF).

Cleared cookies, deleted Internet files, deleted history (cache ?).
Same issue - EDF doesn't say I'm logged on, even though I have logged in with no errors.

History not same as cache (less important for this problem too)

You using ie?

Have you checked your system clock?

Something was up with system clock earlier today, I noticed the date was 13/01/2011 on a file I modified.
So I set it back to today's date.
I think that was before I tried to access EDF via my PC.

Yeah using IE usually.
Will try figure how to delete cache then.

I had this problem today when I tried to log in at work. Never happened before.

How on earth is it possible for someone OTHER THAN THE ORIGINAL POSTER to change the title of a thread? This has happened to my Dulwich Hamlet FC thread (which has now be renamed Rugby World Cup)?

I checked the system date -it was 2 years ahead just like this morning (my message above regarding sysdate didn't state the correct date, which was also 2013).
I changed the system date to system date and rebooted.
Now I can log on to EDF.

Good call on the date - cos I checked it again on account of your suggestion.

Just seen that the EDF Drinks thread's title has also changed to Rugby World Cup. Weird goings on.

It main title hasn't changed, a user has changed the title on their post and subsequent posts use the new title. It's a 'feature' of the forum software that I can't turn off.

How bizarre that someone would feel the urge to alter the headings within the thread: especially where there appears to be a complete lack of connection. E.g. from Dulwich Hamlet FC, to Rugby World Cup, to Frogs Legs for Supper, and - finally - to Yum Yum, Frogs' Legs! Never mind, I shall have to try it myself when feeling sufficiently mischievous.

I know you'll ignore me but perhaps someone else will answer. Do the Mods have the option to edit their posts without it showing as an edit? Just curiouser.

Not many of us left mind, hence my return to the fold.

I don't know whether it's an actual option or whether it just happens - if you know what I mean. The reason I say this is that, sometimes, I have noticed, the administrator/mod will manually type "edited".

Just my observations.

Mods can edit all posts and it won't show as an edit. I think this is due to the forum software rather than any choice of subterfuge and is just to allow us to tidy up the place without lots of "edited by..." signs everywhere and endless questions of "why?" etc.

As a side effect, it means if we edit our own posts it doesn't show either. I can't speak for the rest of the team but whenever I've done so I try to remember to manually type in "edited" at the bottom so there is no room for accusations of changing things to make others look silly or some such.

I hope that clears things up.
