Ghosts and paranormal activity in ED & PR

Having recently been visited by a local psychic due to some unexplained activity in my home, I wondered of anyone else had seen or heard of any local ghostly activities? I found a few articles online regarding tales of spiritual activity, and this one in particular caught my eye regarding the old Kings Arms pub which was destroyed during the blitz.

Hey come on, you can't leave it there!

What "unexplained activity" ?!

And what did the psychic say ?!

Sue, I've been attending a spiritualist church in Eltham for a few years now on a Sunday, and until very recently had disregarded certain things at home happening. But progressively increasing in frequency I've had unexplained activity happening at home. Including cold spots, movement of objects and the smell of cigar smoke. A visiting spirit medium told me it was the ghost of a man who had lived in the property some 70 years ago and he was an active spirit. I am actually quite happy to have him here, though some people experience more sinister hauntings, I've been lucky.

Voltore you make a great point, and this was my reckoning too. I've always had an open mind towards other worldly activities for years, and having never previously experienced much I guessed it was all load of old s*it. However, since attending this place I've been given guidance over what to look out for, and I always look for the rational before jumping to conclusions. I've had a trained spirit medium as well as other individuals experiencing things in the property and it all fits together.

Not sure you necessarily need to have had a death there for people to experience things like that?

Agreed, I think the alcohol supply is more important

I started a thread a while back on paranormal stuff or something like that - there were some interesting stories.

To answer your question tho, nothing experienced in ED but the house I grew up in was occupied and there was loads of weird shit that went down. Thing is, unless you've seen it / were there, its awkward explaining it because people are quite rightly dubious and if you haven't got a stake in trying to convince anyone (who cares what people who weren't there think) it's just a whole load of effort for nowt.

Er...... So it's only this world that you're closed minded and bigoted to then?

And cigar smoke? How very middle class. You must be distraught.

Yes.

Cigar smoking middle class? If anything I'd have said upper class. Although having said that, I can remember the working men's club in Peckham back in the 70s and a lot of the old boys smoked cigars and pipes.

I have no idea about paranormal stuff, but people keep quoting that 11 people died in the Kings Arms and that just isn't true, even if Dulwich on View says it is!

I have just checked an official blitz mapping website which confirms a bomb did destroy the Kings Arms public house in 1941, however there is no further information on how many people were killed, if any at all. Like others on here, I've been told the stories through older relatives of people dying but I cannot find any factual information confirming this.

Taper, thank you for your reassurance, but as with all belief systems I think we are entitled to believe them whether others do or not. The psychic was not paid, she has been doing it for years and admits herself it isnt flawless, she can only describe what she feels and sees in her minds eye. Whether you choose to believe her or not is upto you.

    • Option 1.  Let them go bust.  Government takes over, until an appropriate solution found.  This happens with failing train operating companies  Option 2.  Anyone who made money on the privatisation, or their immediate descendants, bail them out  Obviously the latter isn't going to happen but makes me feel better/superior. What do you reckon?  Big picture.  Small picture as I posted elsewhere is that they were good when we had a leaking main.  And of course mass redundancies need to be avoided.
    • Hi my mum has a lovely frenchi Teo   he needs to be walked , as mum (80) is a bit fragile . he is a lovely dog , a bit nervous when around other dogs . Mum lives in Rast Dulwich . how much do you charge ?
    • Plenty for sale online from various ticket vendors but you'll need to part with £250 and upwards by the looks of it. Out of interest i kept an eye on the prices for the England and Italy Euro final. At one point they were on offer for a couple of grand each. On the day sellers were obviously getting itchy feet and prices dropped somewhat but never went any lower than £400. That was a few hours before kick off. There was plenty still available half an hour before kick off.   Having been to Wembley a couple of times for play off finals i found it to be not a great place to watch football. Sat three rows back from the pitch side advertising hoardings for one game and way way up in the gods for the other. We felt to far away from the pitch on both occasions. Up in the goods was just stupid because we felt cut off as well.  I don't think it was rebuilt with acoustics in mind either. Even with most of our 25k fans singing it never sounded loud because it's pretty much uncovered and too open.   Happy hunting!
    • It doesn't work as a commercial venture.  Bit churlish to say I told you so.  I told you so.  I'll send less greetings cards.  What pees me off is international postage where you can no longer send light letters at 10 grammes, normal ones up to 20g, now all at the much more expensive 100 g  Didn't we vote to take back control and price everything according to irrational units like ounces? That's some obscure humour btw
