Chordless headphones for watching telly. Advice needed

Otta

Recommended Posts

My father in law is getting a bit mutton and is concerned he'll upset his neighbours by having the telly too loud.

He's asked me which headphones he should get, but I'm not really in the know.

Any recommendations for decent phones but not top range expensive?

" if you're going mutton there's not much point buying expensive gear. "

Is that professional advice ? I'd always understood that loosing one's hearing involved becoming less able to hear certain pitches ,high I think . So simply amplifying everything would be the equivalent of having glasses that simply magnified everything .

Was thinking that decent quality might be beneficial .

Would be interested to know anyone's experience ,having hearing problems myself .

No not a professional opinion at all and I may have got it completely arse about face, but all headphones will amplify sound uniformly. My father has high frequency deafness so it just struck me that the greater clarity from more expensive gear reproducing a broader frequency range and perfectly balanced sound would be lost on him, but I'm happy to be corrected.

If he has reduced sensitivity to certain frequencies, then better balanced sound (in terms of frequency response) probably wouldn't help at all. Surely what he'd need would be some way of boosting the frequencies he found it hard to hear?
