Recommended Posts

It's a huge part of my life and i'm endlessly facinated by it's magicial alure

Wrapped over the Turkey at Xmas, or around a sausage, in a sandwich, and more. Oh and Bacon Jam too

I'm home curing some belly pork at the moment, but i've discovered some very good streaky smoked and back stuff at The Butchery in Forest Hill

And a few cured gammon hocks have been featured of late

Anywhere else I should try, for my porcine obsession

I love Bacon

That might look like bacon, AM, but it's just not the same. Ditto with the abominable turkey 'bacon' from Bernard Matthews.

Someone did Bacon Baklava for a recent Band of Bakers event - I had never heard of such a thing before - it looked fab in the photos. Has anyone ever tried it in real life?

Yep - the baker in question is a friend, and I sampled some... it was interesting.

It can be done badly which is off putting. I avoid the bacon in the work canteen because it's dry and just tastes of salt.

But a good bacon sandwich is something very special.

I don't know how I'd have survived my 20s without bacon sarnies and cups of builder's.

My Canadian missus doesn't get British/Danish bacon. When she "does" bacon it's only ever streaky and only ever cooked crisp /rigid.

She can't actually cook it any other way and gets very confused when I do my European wide rashers.

And I also like it in pasta better than pancetta.....

    • I think the concern is the mast being so close to a school as well?
    • There is a planning application to put a mobile phone mast at the top of Dog Kennel Hill.  Residents of Camberwell Grove and their friends in the Camberwell Society are fighting it - defacing their nice conservation area with ugly laminated posters!  They do not benefit from it as reception is fine on their side of the hill. https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=S9IKT2KBN1200 I do not think there are any health hazards from being near phone masts (or at least they are negligible relative to everyday risks we all face).  Anyway, here is what the NHS has to say about them: https://111.wales.nhs.uk/encyclopaedia/m/article/mobilephonesafety/#Risks I imagine this will spark some lively debate!
    • Hi Laura, Thank you for your interest. I only walk 2 dogs at a time and your mum’s little one will be walking with my own 12 year old  Tibetan/poodle cross(send you her picture) and I charge £20 p/walk, pick up and drop. If it’s from Monday to Friday then we can talk and see what’s best for both of us. Sometimes if the weather is good we can stay at the park a bit longer than a hour…😊 I can only start the walks from Monday April 8th. Thank you, regards  M
