South facing windows - help!

Hi everyone.

I had an offer accepted on a flat the other day. It's a good size, tidy (though needs a bit of work), beautiful communal grounds, gated parking, well kept building, decent location near Penge High Street, transport etc etc

Since the offer was accepted I can only seem to fixate on the few negative points. The main one being that the building is situated so that one side faces south west, the other north east. The flat I have offered on is on the 8th floor, and all windows face south west, bar one window which faces north west.

I understand this is useful for keeping warmer in winter months, but I'm worried all the rooms may be unbearably hot in the summer. It's a 60s block so it may not be the most efficient building at staying cool in the summer anyway, add in all those heat generating windows and the conditions could be fairly oven like.

Am I being ridiculous for thinking this flat may not be right because of this, or are there ways around this, such as well used blinds/curtains etc...

Anyone with any ideas would be most welcome. Thanks!

    • Labour are proposing to nationalise the railways, (passenger trains but not fright)  Whilst it removes them from shareholders control, and potential profit chasing, is it workable or will it end up costing tax payers more in the long run?  On paper the idea is interesting but does it also need the profitable freight arm included to help reduce fares,?
