Blocking email

Spammers 'spoof' the from address (and/or the reply-to address) and quite often use your own address just to get around spam filters.

But filtering on the from address is pretty useless anyway, as they use all sorts of addresses. I often get spam from friends addresses, often because they have been hacked. If you are on Hotmail or Gmail or whatever, you are better off looking into turning on the inbuilt spam filter. These look at the message itself and the email metadata and try to make a better educated guess.

About 18 months ago, I also started receiving large amount of spam featuring my email address. I religiously marked everything as Spam. It took a while but the spam filters eventually started picking them up and putting them straight into the Spam folder.

I've found Gmail is really good at blocking spam.

I have the opposite problem. It puts things into my spam folder which aren't spam and then deletes them after thirty days..

I only found this out recently :(

And when informed that they aren't spam, it continues to treat emails from that address as spam :(

This might not be related but there was a huge dump of emails and passwords recently - discovered a couple of weeks ago but likely stolen a while back. Have a check against your address on the HaveIBeenPwned site linked above. Apparently these addresses were particularly being used to send email via SMTP - this could be why you're seeing emails from yourself. May be worth changing your email password just in case.

Unfortunately it is messages sent via a contact form on our website, so I dont' think that solution would work.
