this is good news for Dulwich village

i will pop in once it opens but i bet they will be a bit pricey for me as the overheads for the village shops will over spill onto us the customer

went into Scotch Meats Independent Fine Foods Rosendale road and was expensive

i think i will be sticking to William rose on lordship lane or the butchers in Nunhead

And the fact that it says "organic and free range" in large letters outside, despite the fact that much of it isn't organic (don't know if all the rest is free range).

There are alternatives to WR and this new butchers in the Village. Personally I use and can happily recommend W,Buntings on Peckham Park Road, it's on the 78 bus route just off Peckham Hill street close to the junction with the Old Kent Road. I always get well looked after, is a family run business who care about what they do.

Personally I think William Rose is great and some of their basics are very good value, better quality than the biggest local supermarket but a comparable cost. That said, they've been doing what they do for a while and another gourmet butcher in the area will probably inspire them to greater heights.

Bring on the meat war!

These guys are great. It may not look as suave as WR but I?ve been using them both personally and professionally for six years. They supply a surprising number of well known restaurants, including Franklin?s. Chris and Mark really know their stuff.

I've shopped in William rose for quite a while now and have always found them to be value for money and not expensive at all. My weekly organic chicken normally cost me around ?15 which I don't think is to much to pay at all...

Yes but most ordinary people know that Sainsbury?s is a rip off. Hardly a secret, is it?

You can get responsibly farmed meat without paying through the nose.

The average person on the street would not pay out ?15 for a chicken. You know it as well.

Can anyone really tell the difference between a chicken from the butchers and an organic free range chicken> Apart from the cost. Because I certainly don;t think I could and I very much many others could either. Usually a nice plump chicken from the butchers comes in at under a tenner. I vary rarely buy pre-packed meat from the supermarket, much prefer the butchers because I know it is fresh.

Just shows you what suckers we are really.

They were selling rib eye at ?28.50 per kg the last time I went in. And of course I bought it as it was the only rib eye they had that particular Saturday.
