Sent a friend a catch-up email yesterday early evening. Receieved a reply a couple of hours later...

Thanks for your message...In a bit of shock...just heard yahoo news that Prince has died. Will get back after cup of tea.

He never got back. I know for a fact that he drinks PG Tips tea, and if he's found out that Choppers has left this mortal coil too, it may be too much. Please prey for him...

Isn't 'yahoo news' the type of news one is delighted about?

Shit! MP wasn't joking either. Never saw that one coming.

I am crying wet, salty tears as I type this. So sad. Count me as officially devastated.

To be honest, had you asked me in 1985 who was best out of Bowie, Prince, and Chopper, the chimp would've got.my vote every time!

How could you think I could joke about such things? *reproachful face*

Anyway. Apparently Shakespeare died, 400 years ago. Who knew?

It's am .ism. Not sure what .ism it is though

After a little exploreration..

evidently an example of 'absurdist logic'.

The following comments have been credited to Goldwyn and Berra respectively:

1) If Franklin D. Roosevelt were alive now, hed turn in his grave.
2) If Casey Stengel were alive today, hed be turning over in his grave.

It's a phrase that has been with me for a long time.
Sort of fits with my 'absurdist logical mind'.

Until Pointless, I never realised how many movies Burt Kwouk was in. He's a pretty good guess in the 'name people who were in a certain movie' rounds.

RIP Bob Holman: a quietly heroic man who gave up a comfortable life in academia to go and live on the 'wrong side of the tracks' and offer hands-on help instead of top-down advice to those at the sharp end of poverty and inequality. He worked and campaigned tirelessly and truly lived out his beliefs. To have lost him and Jo Cox in the same week is heartbreaking and feels like a diminishing of the levels of decency and goodness in the world.

Bit surprised how quiet the forum has been about Jo Cox. But I guess everything is being said elsewhere. Heartbreaking stuff, and it does raise real issues about the current climate.

She's exactly the sort of person I was hoping would rise to the top of Labour before 2020.

RIP.
