RIP - Bill McLaren - the voice of rugby

He was to rugby what Dan Maskell was to tennis and Peter Allis is to golf. He was one of a great tradition of BBC commentators who were the very best.

Everyone who has been a fan of the 5/6 nations over the last 30 years or so will miss him and the ease with which his commentary came across.

He always liked to mention a player's home club when one made his 6 nations debut, no doubt raising a big cheer in the players rugby club back home, which was a nice touch.

Vary sad.
