Top Tip - Looking to watch less television without cold turkey? Fill your old microwaves with old dolls covered in ketchup and leave in your front room. Then when you think "Oooh I must just watch a bit of casulty" - go and look at this instead.

Hope that's helpful.

When I was growing up and we couldn't afford a microwave I thought they were the coolest things

When I moved out and got a job and still couldn't afford one it was still high up on my list

When I got one?. I realised how grim they were - got rid and never bothered again

Sometimes, when I'm being dim and forget to defrost something I will momentarily wish I had one - until I remember how grim the result was

Good riddance I say - save your money and get the decent steak again

My Gran had hers for so long I thought she might want to be buried with it.

As it was, she opted for one of those wicker basket-style eco-coffins.

One of the staff at 'The Crem' told me (after the curtains had closed etc) that, ironically, it took more gas to burn the 'eco' ones because the hardwood timber used in standard coffins help the combustion process along.

How we laughed!

I can't understand why microwaves are being dissed. For sure, you probably wouldn't want to cook your entire dinner in it. but I find them mighty useful for:

1. Cooking potatoes quickly which I can then chuck into what I am cooking on the stove. (Saves about 15 mins cooking time).

2. Reheating cups of tea/coffee that have gone cold.

3. Drinking chocolate. (Saves washing up the saucepan).

4. Quickest/best way to melt choclate for cooking (According to Nigella).

5. Reheating leftover cooked rice.

Etc etc

The truth is that Sean is afraid of microwaves. Yes - afraid.

He doesn't trust any method of cooking unless he can see a clear flame - and only then if the food is suspended over the flame in a giant copper pot, secured on a chain from a high beam.
