It's part of the Capital Pub Company, as is the Bishop. Not a massive chain, but not exactly indie either.

Not sure whether these pubs were always part of the group, or whether they did a deal with that Scott chap...

They did do a deal with that 'Scott Chap'...

http://www.capitalpubcompany.com/ bought The Bishop and The Clarence from me. I am now a shareholder of them. I still oversee The Bishop and The Clarence as well as The Merchant in Battersea and The Florence. I sourced The Uplands & The Wishing well, which we have also bought.

If you take the time to look at the corporate section of our website, you will see we are not a greedy behemoth of a pub company. We are unbranded, with Managers who have a massive amount of autonomy to run their sites. You will probably know some of our other pubs...

I will be be designing them from the ground up to fit a couple of gaps I see in the local market.

The working plan is The Uplands becomes The Villager with 8 boutique B&B rooms above and The Wishing Well reverts to it's original name 'The Victoria Inn'. The Victoria will have a kid's room away from the bar with smart B&B rooms above.

If anyone has any specific questions or suggestions, please don't hesitate to email me directly (I will answer quicker than via the forum).

Would be great to see the Uplands as a boutique hotel. ED, as has been noted, needs a local place to put bods up from time to time. Uplands rooms were pleasant but they lost brownie points with me when my mum stayed there having booked B&B. She got up in the morning to find no staff in the building and no-one to provide breakfast. She had considerbale difficulty getting out of the place without setting off the fire alarm as the doors were still locked.

When she rang later to complain and ask for a refund on the breakfast part of the B&B, she was told that there would be no refund as the breakfast was complementary and she had really only paid for the room!!!!

Great news folks! Let's all head along to the Uplands as they do free breakfasts!!!!

Question - why the need to rename the pub - it seems a shame to get rid of the original name, part of the areas heritage and all that. The same question applies to why you felt the need to lose the Forester's name, one of the oldest pubs in the area I believe, and rebrand it as the Bishop.

    • A quick Google found this, amongst other things: "Social impact models are frameworks or approaches that guide how organizations or initiatives address social or environmental problems."
    • "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck then it must be a duck" comes to mind Unfortunately, a large number of cyclists do exhibit selfish amd anti social behaviour which, regardless of how many good cyclists there are, is seen as the norm.  It's a bit like one car driver jumping a red light and all car drivers getting tarred by the same brush. Perception is the issue and if cyclists all obeyed the rules, everyone would be less anti them but unfortunately that isn't the case 🤔
    • Crikey. How did you know it was Immigration Enforcement?
    • Saying cyclists are the most antisocial people in London isn't helpful.  Nor is the Standard referring to cyclists as lycra clad louts  Yes we can have an adult conversation.  But emotive knee jerk nonsense is not going to achieve this and just plays into the hands of those wanting a manufactured culture war
