Gallery Road Parking Confusion

Has anyone else been a victim of the confusion over parking on Gallery Road?

I would like to appeal to anyone who has been fined there recently to get in touch, as I believe the lack of signage is criminal and wonder if the council are exploiting motorist's confusion over white lines etc. and are using that road as a revenue raising exercise.

It's clearly a matter of confusion, since Dulwich Picture Gallery actually have to explain the parking on their website.

We were ticketed on a Sunday when the Steam Carter Fair was on, and every car along that road was parked half on the footpath, it must have been a joyous day for the council.

Anyone else out there experienced this? I'd love to make a group appeal, or at least get signage up there to stop other people losing ?60.

Yes but on that road you can, there are areas when you can park on the footpath, the confusion lies where the continuous white lines are - many motorists are confused, particularly on Sundays. Just drive down there yourself. There are many areas on this road where you can park on the footpath, motorists are confused on Sundays and clearly do not know what the white lines mean - apparently, according to the Dulwich Picture Gallery website, the white lines mean you can park anywhere but just not on the footpath. It is clearly causing confusion, if you check this out you will see, why are the Dulwich Picture Gallery having to explain this in capital letters to visitors??

See below what they say on their website:

? If you park on Gallery Road, please observe the parking restrictions even though parking is free on this road. There are demarcation lines on one side which allows you to partially park on the pavement. Everywhere else you MUST NOT park on the pavement or you will be subject to a parking fine. The single white lines on other areas of the road do not indicate that you cannot park.ENDS

Is it not clear enough, otherwise so many motorists wouldn't be subjecting themselves to ?60 fines.

Anyone else been a victim of this confusion?
