Cycle Route Advice

Had a quick search and couldn't see what I was looking for before the repeat thread police jump on me!!

I'm looking for a nice river side route to cycle on Saturday... nothing too strenuous!! Would like it to be less than an hours drive from ED out in to the country side.

We did Bewl Reservoir on Sunday which was very pretty and quite a nice ride, but now want a river/canal path type ride to do.

Any ideas??

I you are wanting to stay fairly close to London I did think about the Eton/ Bray/ cookham/ maidenhead area had a quick look at a site with some planned routres and found these

A scenic flat ride along the river to Maidenhead and back through farm land on straight road with many rises and falls.

Cycle Steps

A nice loop on NCR4 round the Cox Green area of Maidenhead, over Knowl Hill (a very challenging climb!) and than following the Thames back through Hurley, Bourne End and Cookham). Please be aware that some of areas of this route contains public footpaths and should NOT be cycled on.

Now dont be put off by the mention of Slough in the next one Im from there originally and know its kind of grim but it has excellant connections to London and i you did want to go by train it would be quick- assuming bikes are still allowed and some of the rest of the route is fantastic.

This is a road route, mainly on A roads, that is a lovely ride alongside the Thames. It is hilly around Maidenhead, then levels out around the river, before one last climb up to Danesfield. From here you are back to the river again.

there were a number of other routes on the same site that mgiht be worth looking at too

SCSB79 - very good question and hope someone else has a better (nearer) suggestion.

So this is probably the wrong direction you were looking for but...

if you can be bothered with the hour's* drive to Epping in Essex (parking probably best at Loughton or Theydon Bois), there's great cycling routes around Epping Forest. The countryside is lovely and there are gentle routes (no canals though).

*depending on time of day

Thanks for the suggestions, might try those in future but think we'll head down to Weybridge and cycle along the towpath between there and Godalming:

The National Trust, alongside commercial and club ventures, actively promotes the use of the river for leisure activities. All manner of boating activity including canoes and rowing boats, a horse-drawn trip boat, and narrowboats hired and privately owned, use the waterway throughout the year. It is also possible to walk or cycle the full length of the navigations from Godalming to Weybridge with only two minor interruptions, and so casual walkers, serious ramblers, joggers and cyclists are a common sight along the towpaths.

I don't know what to make of it.  Is this a conspiracy to force people to go private.  If they can afford it.  Or are they just trying to kill us off through lack of medical support.  I do not think that I am qualified to diagnose my own medical condition.  This system is surely not a safe one.   And people will eventually die due to lack of basic health care.  It is a very bad situation.   From cradle to grave.  It seems more grave than cradle to me.  Are all so called GP practises as bad?
    • Years ago there was something similar locally,  but out of a bright blue sky,  so completely unexpected. A bolt from the blue. I heard this massive bang, the loudest thing I'd ever heard (until today!) I went out to investigate and found lightning had struck a house in Whateley Road (I think it was Whateley Road.  Other people may remember, as quite a  few other people were also gathered around). The lightning had gone down the chimney. The fire service were there for some time. It was quite exciting, though I don't suppose the people in the house it struck thought so! https://www.essearth.com/what-is-a-lightning-bolt-from-the-blue/
