Anyone any experience of mentor scheme for teacher training

A friend is struggling with finding a mentor for their next year's training.

I don't know the ins and outs, but his college isn't being that helpful, so I wondered if anyone had any experience of finding a great mentor in the same scenario (routes to try), or miracle of miracles, happens to be an art / design teacher up for some mentoring?

When you say mentoring due you mean for a PGCE student? Or GTP (graduate teacher programme)?
