The Cheese Shop and adjoining Health Shop Lordship Lane

Has anyone else found the man in the Cheese shop really surly and rude. He can't even muster a smile - and at those high prices I'd be positively beaming.

And while we're on the topic, the young guy with whacky hair in the Health Shop is also downright rude whenever I go in. I wish the shops had some competition as maybe this would force them to improve their service!

Can't say I have no. Not exactly bubbly but his wife and daughter are always extremely helpful.

As for the high prices....show me the same cheese in London at lower prices and I'll eat a truckle.

Sorry Spangles, think you might have caught him on an off day.

Never been in the Health Shop....purveyors of snake oil and all that.

Ooooh....go on, do tell. Jam-man on Northcross Rd? Furniture man on Northcross Rd? Oh, wait, you said LL. I give up.

I'm all for competition. Were you thinking of starting a smiling competition? Best retail smile on LL? I've always found the Cheese Block guys to be really good humoured and Health Matters staff have always been helpful too. Perhaps they're saddened by your imminent departure.

Wacky-hair guy in SMBS is a great laugh - as are all of the people in SMBS I find

The don't look like they take any nonsense mind - if someone ventured in with an attitude of "my good man bring me some tamarind" (and I'm not saying that was you spangles) they probably wouldn't get the full smile, no

Cheese shop I frequent less (not being a cheese guy, nothing to do with the shop) but I have picked up some ham and preserves from time to time - seem fine to me

I'm sure this was discussed before but am unable to find the thread...vaguely seem to remember mixed views on the topic and someone suggested he may have been having an off-day and another suggested that he was mourning the death of his wife...(apologies if my memory doesn't serve me too well)

Somewhat new to EDF but is it a place where recommendations are genuinely made? or is it an area where you can let off some steam/have a whinge? if Im on the site looking for a good cheese shop then am i right in assuming this is a shop selling good quality cheese?

    • I think the concern is the mast being so close to a school as well?
    • There is a planning application to put a mobile phone mast at the top of Dog Kennel Hill.  Residents of Camberwell Grove and their friends in the Camberwell Society are fighting it - defacing their nice conservation area with ugly laminated posters!  They do not benefit from it as reception is fine on their side of the hill. https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=S9IKT2KBN1200 I do not think there are any health hazards from being near phone masts (or at least they are negligible relative to everyday risks we all face).  Anyway, here is what the NHS has to say about them: https://111.wales.nhs.uk/encyclopaedia/m/article/mobilephonesafety/#Risks I imagine this will spark some lively debate!
    • Hi Laura, Thank you for your interest. I only walk 2 dogs at a time and your mum’s little one will be walking with my own 12 year old  Tibetan/poodle cross(send you her picture) and I charge £20 p/walk, pick up and drop. If it’s from Monday to Friday then we can talk and see what’s best for both of us. Sometimes if the weather is good we can stay at the park a bit longer than a hour…😊 I can only start the walks from Monday April 8th. Thank you, regards  M
