Free Introduction to beekeeping sessions

Introduction to Beekeeping is a free 1-day course designed to give a general understanding of the role of bees in supporting wildlife and agricultural production and a taster of what it would be like to look after bees. Courses are held on Sundays throughout summer, from 10.30am until 4.30pm (with a break for lunch) and are open to anybody aged 19 years or over.

In one day we can only offer a range of topics for consideration, together with the chance to have a practical session working on the Garden’s hives with the Garden’s experienced beekeepers.

Some of the basic topics covered will include:

the importance of beekeeping

bees and honey-bees; the life cycle of queens, workers, drones, and their division of labour

the life cycle of a hive: swarming and swarm control

the products of the hive: honey, wax, propolis and royal jelly

Dates:

Sunday 26th June 10.30am – 4.30pm

Sunday 3rd July 10.30am – 4.30pm

Sunday 17th July 10.30am – 4.30pm

Sunday 24th July 10.30am – 4.30pm

Please note: The course is FREE but you may only attend once.

To book your place contact the Farm on 020 7582 2652 or email [email protected]. Please state the date you wish to attend, along with your full name, contact telephone number, email and postal address.

Please note that dates may be subject to change in exceptional circumstances.

Beekeeping is a wonderfully rewarding activity and it has an essential role in supporting wildlife and agricultural production. Even in London you can plant fruit bushes or small crops and see them pollinated by bees, or keep bees yourself, if you have a garden and a good relationship with the neighbours."
