Does anyone know when our old tv's will stop working here? In norfolk its early November and my father is really worried about it.

Why the concern? Isn't it just a case of buying a ?25 Freeview box?

They wont stop working you just need a freeview adaptor

no, no freeview signal in north norfolk. he'll have to get a new tv and he's 86 so anything new is a bit of an ordeal.

But if there's no Freeview signal, how is he going to get digital TV at all?

Thats the bit I dont understand- I think he says he has to buy a satellite dish but not subscribe, just a one off payment ???

That would be Freesat (a satellite version of freeview operated by BBC and ITV) for which you need a satellite dish and a freesat digital box (like the freeview box) - if you have these there's no need for a digital tv.

Bear in mind when the change over happens the digital signal will be strengthened so almost everyone will get freeview. There is a small possibility he will need freesat, but unlikely, all you need to know is on the site linked to by Alan Medic above.
