Does anyone have an Italian au pair?

Recommended Posts

We are changing au pairs in March and we're going to have an Italian girl - I don't suppose there are any local families who also have Italian au pairs? Our current au pair is German and seems to have only, or at least mainly, made friends with other Germans so I'm thinking I should perhaps be identifying a few possible Italian friends for our next au pair!

hi Largeginandtonic,

i am italian ,there is a lot of families who have italian au pairs, or childminder(like me)

i think its depend for her personality ,the first 3 years i was in london i had only english friends and not italian (for to learn and improve the english language :) )

the only thing i m pretty sure to tell you ,is the italian mentality ....most of italian are very sociable and they dont have problem to make new friends ...they dont need to be italian :))) oohh well most of italian .i think every person are different .doesnt matter from where they come from :)))

i wish you a good luck with your new au pair !!!

best wishes

Thanks Sabrina - well, yes, she seems very sociable and friendly! Let's hope she makes some fiends. I have thought it a bit of a shame that our current au pair hasn't apparently made any friends with anyone apart from other Germans - I thought partly the attraction of London would be the melting pot of nationalities and cultures! But she is only 19 and I guess it's easier to stick with people from the same country and background.

    • I'm basing it on 20+ years cycling in London and seeing the absolute biggest rule-breakers being my fellow cyclists. I once stopped at a zebra crossing to let a man cross and a cyclist behind me called me a putain for stopping.  I've even witnessed a grown man aggressively ringing his bell and swearing at a four year old child for not getting out of his way.... on a footpath.... in Burgess Park.  I genuinely cannot remember the last time a cyclist stopped for me at a pedestrian crossing.  They give the rest of us cyclists and bad name and turn the traffic against us.
    • Sorry to hear and glad you and hopefully bike OK and doesn't put you off cycling. Please do inform the police even if that sounds a waste of time.  Do consider going to the Motor Insurance Bureau, the slush fund set up by insurers for untraced/uninsured motorists.
