Keyboard advice (what to buy for a 6 year old)

Recommended Posts

My daughter is about to start keyboard lessons, and i have no idea which one to get! Is there anyone who has recommendations or advice around this. I was hoping to get a keyboard that could lead (if desired) to piano playing in the future and i guess I would like one that doesnt come with all the extra's - (drum and other effects).

Any advice welcome!

Hi Hazel, the Yamaha only has 61 keys. Plus it has loads of bells and whistles that you mentioned you don't really need. It has all that bulky stuff at the top of the keys with the drum sounds and other effects. I'd go for something simpler with the full 88 keys.

I have a Yamaha P35 which is great. Slimline and quite a decent touch, here's the link:

Thanks also to Lorraine, I've just come across this useful thread.

My 8 year old has done 4 terms of keyboard lessons, but I'd like him to move onto

piano, but I had no idea about what to buy so that he could practice at home, I do now!

    • That is horrific.  I can't even believe that this a thing.  Really what planet do these so called humans live on...    It actually says that the little fluff balls will be gassed.    It should be illegal.  At least one person took the time to read the letter.   I am shocked.
    • Looking for some advice here! Our little one is sleeping, finally, but still gets upset when going to bed or waking up. Has anyone tried one of the star/galaxy projectors you can get for them at night, and does it distract and sooth them enough to send them to sleep? Recommendations are very welcome here, as there are many different options online, from the suspiciously cheap to eye wateringly expensive. Is it a case of you get what you pay for? Advice gratefully received! LL
