New primary school on Bellenden Road - please complete survey if interested

Recommended Posts

As previously posted in this section, Dulwich Hamlet Educational Trust are applying to create a new community primary school on the site of Bellenden Old School.

As part of the free school application process we need to give supporting evidence to demonstrate the demand and need for a new primary school in the area. There was a fantastic turn out at the public meeting and many people have already expressed their support for the school - but we would be really grateful if any interested prospective parents or members of the local community who haven't yet registered their support would be able to do so.

This can be done very quickly online at: http://surveymonkey.com/s/belham

There is more information available on the proposal for the new school here: http://www.dulwichhamletjuniorschool.org.uk/thebelham.htm

There will be a drop-in session with the Head teacher of Dulwich Hamlet Junior School, Mrs Sonia Case, and members of the Core Applicant Group on Saturday December 7th from 11am to 1pm at the Bellenden Old School building. Please do pop by if you missed the public meeting and would like more information or the opportunity to ask questions about the school proposal.

Just a reminder that there will be drop in session today (Saturday 7th December) from 11am to 1pm at the Bellenden Old School for anyone who wasn't able to make the previous public information or would like more information on the school proposal. Sonia Case, the Head teacher of Dulwich Hamlet Junior School will be there with some of the core applicant group of local community members supporting the plans.

Thank you to everyone who has registered their support for the new community primary school on Bellenden Road.

In addition to the many people who attended the initial public meeting back in October and filled in expression of interest forms, over 200 people have also responded via the online survey - and we also had a very healthy turnout to a drop-in session at the Old Bellenden School on December 7th. It's fantastic that so many people in the local community have engaged with the proposals and shown their support for a new school.

The free school application will be submitted in early January so if you are either a prospective parent or carer, or a member of the local community who hasn't yet registered your support - please do via the quick online survey at http://surveymonkey.com/s/belham

We will keep this forum updated with any news over the coming weeks and months.

    • Is Sadiq worried about voter apathy/protest votes? Just got another flyer through the door, it seems to be one every couple of weeks, suggesting the Tories are closer than any opinion poll suggests and that people should not vote for the Lib Dems or Greens.
    • I'm basing it on 20+ years cycling in London and seeing the absolute biggest rule-breakers being my fellow cyclists. I once stopped at a zebra crossing to let a man cross and a cyclist behind me called me a putain for stopping.  I've even witnessed a grown man aggressively ringing his bell and swearing at a four year old child for not getting out of his way.... on a footpath.... in Burgess Park.  I genuinely cannot remember the last time a cyclist stopped for me at a pedestrian crossing.  They give the rest of us cyclists and bad name and turn the traffic against us.
    • Sorry to hear and glad you and hopefully bike OK and doesn't put you off cycling. Please do inform the police even if that sounds a waste of time.  Do consider going to the Motor Insurance Bureau, the slush fund set up by insurers for untraced/uninsured motorists.
