Local Santas

Have booked Horniman this year & now feel bit wobbly about it having seen feint praise on here!

Went last year to the Whippersnapper's grotto in Dulwich Park - it is a lot more, but you get a full hour experience which included drinks, making/decorating gingerbread, meeting a reindeer, face painting & meeting Santa/getting a pressie & picture.

Hadn't realised it was on again this year & having seen lots on here last year about the Horniman/the messages to book quickly before they all go, got tickets thinking they'd be well worth it... Can anyone reassure that the Horniman is worth while/better than it has been made to sound on here?!

Went to the Horniman today and was really disappointed with the Santa. My daughter is nearly 3 and can be a bit shy but had geared herself up to saying her name and how old she was and worked out what she would like etc. we went in there full of confidence but he didnt engage her or her friend at all! He briefly asked them what they wanted before going on some bizarre monologue about pop music and how he is going on tour with Jessie j and how Robbie Williams is desperate to make some money. It was really strange. There was nothing about being a good girl etc. complete waste of money in my opinion.

Last year we went to Battersea Park Zoo for a day out and went to see Father Christmas even though we hadn't planned it. It was lovely, no queue, lovely pressies and 'elves'! It was only ?5 but you have to pay to get into the zoo which isn't particularly cheap. Went to the horniman this year but wish we had gone back to battersea!

    • Is Sadiq worried about voter apathy/protest votes? Just got another flyer through the door, it seems to be one every couple of weeks, suggesting the Tories are closer than any opinion poll suggests and that people should not vote for the Lib Dems or Greens.
    • I'm basing it on 20+ years cycling in London and seeing the absolute biggest rule-breakers being my fellow cyclists. I once stopped at a zebra crossing to let a man cross and a cyclist behind me called me a putain for stopping.  I've even witnessed a grown man aggressively ringing his bell and swearing at a four year old child for not getting out of his way.... on a footpath.... in Burgess Park.  I genuinely cannot remember the last time a cyclist stopped for me at a pedestrian crossing.  They give the rest of us cyclists and bad name and turn the traffic against us.
    • Sorry to hear and glad you and hopefully bike OK and doesn't put you off cycling. Please do inform the police even if that sounds a waste of time.  Do consider going to the Motor Insurance Bureau, the slush fund set up by insurers for untraced/uninsured motorists.
