disposing of a car seat

hello,

i have an infant car seat which is too old to pass on, how do i dispose of it?

have done a quick google but they all say break it up and put in the bin - is that really what you do!?

You could take it to Southwark Refuse Centre just off the Old Kent Road or if you ring the council they might pick it up as part of their bulky waste collection.

The main point is to cut through the straps if you think it is now unsafe. That would stop anyone salvaging it and trying to use it again. I think that is why you are advised to break it up.

I'm confused about this too - while I've read that car seats have a "life cycle" I've also read the opposite - that the plastic doesn't actually break down. Have a car seat that I would only give away but wonder if it's better to bin. Seems a shame!

They only have a life of 5 years apparently.

we were happy to use it for our 2nd (4th child to use it) but i wouldnt use it again, my gut feeling says its too old!
