Petition for reasonable rents from Dulwich Estates

Is it vexatious to not want to see a family business or small useful shop disappear, only to be replaced by another high end hairdresser or Estate Agent?

Is it vexatious to not want another wine bar with sky high prices demanded in order to meet the high rent?

Is it vexatious to question the role of a massive (monopoly) landowner that ruins small established businesses in order to make money for the 'charity' that is the Dulwich private schools? (because this is where the money goes).

Personlly, I am shocked at the rip off prices in a particular 'child-orientated' toy shop - yes, the one complaining about the increased rent.

Perhaps they're more worried about their profits dipping than not being there for the kiddies..... (also have a shop along LL, so not too far away for the little ones to trek. And another one in Clapham and another one somewhere far away....

Buiness = money - it's their own model. No point complaining when you are the one feeling the pinch

As for the landlord - same goes.

What is your beef with people having a view on rising rents across an area? This is a neighbourhood discussion forum.

The shop which was the original Moo Too that moved to Lordship Lane and is now a charity shop - they moved because Dulwich Estate rents went too high.

Ditto the music shop that was on the corner.

Staff in the shops told me these things at the time.

    • That is clearly not true. I see car drivers breaking the law on an hourly basis - jumping red lights, speeding, not obeying the general rules. Plus they are operating considerably more dangerous machinery and should have a greater responsibility of care to other road uses. You can see who causes the most harm by the stats.
    • Looking for a suit for an 11 year old. Quite specific, white with black thin stripes.  Trying to replicate Michael Jacksons smooth criminal costume.  A blue linen shirt and white tie.    Thank you !!!!!!!
    • A quick Google found this, amongst other things: "Social impact models are frameworks or approaches that guide how organizations or initiatives address social or environmental problems."
    • "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck then it must be a duck" comes to mind Unfortunately, a large number of cyclists do exhibit selfish amd anti social behaviour which, regardless of how many good cyclists there are, is seen as the norm.  It's a bit like one car driver jumping a red light and all car drivers getting tarred by the same brush. Perception is the issue and if cyclists all obeyed the rules, everyone would be less anti them but unfortunately that isn't the case 🤔
