Recommendations for affordable bike trailer?

Hello,

I'm a cycling novice & looking into getting a bike trailer so I can get some exercise & take my 2 kids with me on quieter roads & around parks - I won't be using it for commuting.

I can't spend loads, maybe up to ?200ish (from Amazon perhaps?!) and have been looking online. Would really appreciate getting any feedback from knowledgeable cyclists who use bike trailers and can advise on the better ones for space, comfort & safety for the kids, and lightweight for me. I'd also like one that can transform into a pushchair, if that's not asking too much.

Any advice gratefully received. Equally if you're looking to sell one, please let me know!

Many thanks in advance :)

Hello

I looked into getting one last year but I ended up getting a cargo bike which is not by the sounds of it what you are looking for at all! But I did spend a lot of time looking at trailers and after a lot of research I thought the Croozer trailer looked best for price/space/safety. Thule seems to be the most popular more expensive brand. Both of these are expensive but there are a lot of second hand ones on eBay.

I saw that Balfe's Bikes are selling some trailers but I'm not sure which brands/price range.

If you are going to be off-road then I'm sure there are cheaper brands that are perfectly good. But if you are going on busy roads maybe a second hand better built one might be better.

I presume that your children are too young to ride alone but if not there is also a thing called a tail-gator or trail-gator (something like that) which is a post to attach your child's bike to the back of yours and you can detach it once you get to the park so that they can ride alone. But obviously only any use for one child.

I have a Nihola cargo bike which is a massive thing to store and tough to ride up hill but it's a lot of fun and the kids love it - you can hire them in Dulwich Park if you are tempted to give that a go.

Hope that helps a little!

I'm selling a used Croozer For Kid 2. If you're interested, feel free to come and have a look.

I have the jogging buggy adapters, two bike hookups (one new, one on my bike) but not the swivel wheel. I have the infant hammock and the head/body support to use for children up to the age of 2.

Please send me a PM if you're interested. I'd highly recommend it for two children and luggage (my children used it until the youngest two were 2 and 4), so even if you don't want a second hand one, I would consider this brand. It's a great trailer, really roomy for the children in height and width, with two separate seats (rather than a bench seat that sags to the middle). I thought it was excellent value for money, had plenty of luggage space in the "boot" and was easy to set up, put down, connect to the bike and tow.

Thanks so much for the intel, everyone! Really really helpful. The tagalong things look great, but our two are 3 and 18 months so are a little young for this. One for the future maybe. The Niholas also look great but we have a storage issue and I'd rather go down the trailer route, especially if it can be collapsed and stored in a shed.

Etta166 - thanks for your message. I'll PM you.

And I'll also pop into Balfe's Bikes too - thanks Richard!

:)

    • That is horrific.  I can't even believe that this a thing.  Really what planet do these so called humans live on...    It actually says that the little fluff balls will be gassed.    It should be illegal.  At least one person took the time to read the letter.   I am shocked.
    • Looking for some advice here! Our little one is sleeping, finally, but still gets upset when going to bed or waking up. Has anyone tried one of the star/galaxy projectors you can get for them at night, and does it distract and sooth them enough to send them to sleep? Recommendations are very welcome here, as there are many different options online, from the suspiciously cheap to eye wateringly expensive. Is it a case of you get what you pay for? Advice gratefully received! LL
    • Wouldn't it be better to have a stall at North Cross Road market with a board explaining what they do rather than obstructing the pavement by "explaining" to people what they do one by one?
    • PETA are on to it,  makes horrendous reading, thanks for bringing it to our attention.💔
