Infant reflux - here we go again:(

Any of you oldies out there still? 6 2:3 years later and baby 2 is a refluxer. It is just as awful as last time but we have had help quicker and he was in neocate and omeprazole by the time he was 3 weeks.

There has been some improvement but still very unsettled and fussy. Cries a lot. Nights are bad.

Hit me with your advice pls, how do I get through?

Oh midivydale... you poor things. You had such a rough time last time-can come and cuddle an unsettled baby for you if required?

Treat them like a bottle of pop: no shaking; no quick transitions from lying, has omeprazole been increased with increased weight? Has ranitidine been trialled? Are you just on neocate for milk?


Shift parent with OH as much as possible to get as much rest as you can, pull every favour you can to get rest, go easy on yourself, meals don?t all need to be home cooked and the launderette can do the washing-happy to help with dropping this off and collecting if needed.

Oh no!


Agree with Gooders - lots of sling action during the day & definitely get them weighed and check

if omeprazole dose needs adjustment (check their on a mid to high range dose to cover for weight gain).


Book under head end of cot legs/Moses basket stand too x

Aw you both are still around! Thank you so much, great pointers as I had forgotten a lot of this stuff. Goddess, IF you are around I would say a def yes to holding baby and a chat but I know you are busy with your own children.

What sling would you both recommend? I have booked an appointment with the sling library for Monday as I have no idea what I?m doing. Any pointers would be hugely welcomed.

So nice that you guys are still out there.

I?ve heard that the classic baby bjorn slings are very good for reflux babies as they hold them so upright unlike the soft stretchy ones such as a moby wrap which allow a more curled up posture. I know people who have given up very early on lie flat prams and moved into something with a slight incline (even the car seat) or just sling the whole time. I think lots of the standard baby advice goes out of the window with a true reflux baby; that can feel very uncomfortable but you will ultimately know what is best for you all.

I had a silent reflux-y baby who got on really well with the stretchy wrap sling - in fact she pretty much lived in it for about the fist 3-4 months of a her life (I got her out for feeds and nappy changes and not much else). They're amazing - hands free, she slept a lot, I even managed baking with my then 2 yr old. Try a moby wrap or similar - the stretchy ones are just easier with smaller babies. Maybe just a nappy for them in this weather though!

The skin library will be able to recommend best sling for you - slumber roo is a great website to

use to buy them (although it could open the door to a sling obsession!!)


Not impressed normally with the Baby Bjorns :-( they?ve improved, but still lag behind lesser known

better designed models - it?s all in the waist/hip belt as that?s where the weight should be carried!


Was lucky to see your post as only dip into the EDF occasionally now!

Hi midivydale, also coming out of Edf retirement to post.


Def suggest regular weighing and maybe regular pre booked appts with doc?


Re slings, I tried an ergo omni with my 3rd child and it is very upright so might be worth trying one of those.


Huge sympathies. Accept all offers of help and get sleep when possible. Can you hire in help eg during the day whilst 6 Is at school so you can sleep while they clean cook or hold baby?

      My son’s primary school hatched duck eggs, probably under this scheme around 12 years ago.  We were all very upset to hear that 2 of the (5 year old) boys had knocked the incubator over & all eggs smashed.   feeling a lot less sad about that now!

      What would I do about cyclists?  The failed Tory manfesto commitment to train all kids was an excellent proposal.  Public information campaigns aimed at all road users, rather than singling some out, to more considerately share the road, as TfL have done, is welcome too. As for crunching vehicles.  I'd extend this to illegal ebikes, illegal e-scoooters (I think some local authorities have done this with the latter) but before that I would (a) legislate that the delivery companies move away from zero hours contracts to permanent employees and take responsibility for their training, vehicles and behaviour on the road.   More expensive takeaways are a price worth paying for safer roads and proper terms and conditions (b) legislate to register all illegal e-bikes and scooters so that when they are found on the road the retailer takes a hit, and clamp down on any grey markets.  If you buy an e scooter say from Halfords this comes with a disclaimer that it can only be used on private land with the owner's permission.

      I know a lot of experts in the field and getting a franchise was a license to print money, that is why Virgin were so happy to spend lots of dosh challenging government ten years ago when they lost the West Coast franchise.  This will not be overnight, rather than when the franchise has come to the end. Government had previously taking over the operator of last resort when some TOCs screwed up.       Can't help thinking that regardless of whether Joe wanted to be interviewed, the 'story' that Southwark News wanted to write just got a lot less interesting with 'tyre shop replaced with ... tyre shop'!
