Jiu Jitsu or Self-defence Martial Arts for 5 year old

Good evening all,

I hope this post finds you well.

Does anyone know of any Jiu Jitsu or some other type of martial art clubs in the local area?

My daughter was "strangled" at school the other day by an older child. The strangler was spoken to and is apologetic, but I've just been told by another parent (who didn't know what had happened my girl) that her daughter was strangled in the same week too! My daughter was confused, couldn't explain it to me clearly and thought it was a game.

Anyhow, I think it's a good idea to get her into a class to help build her confidence, assertiveness and deal with bullies etc.

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks,

Tea

Yes Sun taekwondo has classes at Jags on Mon and Thurs and kids on Saturday. Great but not really self defence, TKD tends to be more concentrated on learning patterns and at higher level sparring at competitions. Whereas Wingtsun they teach kids how to keep safe and only use force when it's last option so more in lines of self defence and getting out of holds.

    • That is clearly not true. I see car drivers breaking the law on hourly basis - jumping red lights, speeding, not obeying the general rules. Plus they  are operating considerably more dangerous machinery and should have a greater responsibility of care to other road uses. You can see who causes the most harm by the stats.  Lucky car driver obey the rules the rules then. Oh wait.. https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jul/06/car-crashes-into-primary-school-in-south-london-wimbledon

    • A quick Google found this, amongst other things: "Social impact models are frameworks or approaches that guide how organizations or initiatives address social or environmental problems."
    • "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck then it must be a duck" comes to mind Unfortunately, a large number of cyclists do exhibit selfish amd anti social behaviour which, regardless of how many good cyclists there are, is seen as the norm.  It's a bit like one car driver jumping a red light and all car drivers getting tarred by the same brush. Perception is the issue and if cyclists all obeyed the rules, everyone would be less anti them but unfortunately that isn't the case 🤔
