Help! Sofa stuck in my 1st floor flat

Recommended Posts

I have a dilemma. I've recently purchased a new sofa and have sold my old one to a friend.

I was tight getting the old sofa in (the arms come off) but we managed it. It seems impossible to get out though. We've the best part of 3.5 hours today trying to get it down my staircase.

Surely if we got it in, we should be able to get it out!?

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Or can you recommend someone who does?

I was practically tearing my hair out earlier. Thanks

Annasfield ,

I'm wondering could the original sofa have been brought in via an upstairs window. I only ask because I have an odd entrance hall which limits most items from being brought through from the front ( a real disaster as there is no entry from the rear of the property either). We have had to bring all beds sofas and bookcases through the windows on both stories. It might be worth considering that option alternatively it might be worth seeing if someone who does removals would be willing to sort it out when they are doing a local job. People who move furniture for a living seem to have some sort of sofa whispering ability to coax tricky furniture through narrow spaces !

Hi Annasfeild,

I might be able to help you, I'm no professional but iv moved quite a few times and have had the same sort of problems as this.

If you could call or txt me and I can try to find a time to come and give it a try.

Kind regards,

A really lovely chap called Paul managed to get it out in 10 minutes.

I cannot recommend him enough. His business is AU Upholstery

Not only does he make furniture, but he specialises in getting large furniture in/out of properties by dismantling and re-building it. I was expecting him to have to do this with the sofa, but he got it out.
