Carpet fitter needed and questions answered

We are looking for a new carpet for our lounge and wanted some advice regarding carpet fitting. It's a long room so was hoping that the carpet could be laid without us moving the larger items of furniture out of it - just moving say the sofas down the other end while it was laid from one end etc. Never having brought a carpet before we had a couple of questions about how fitting normally works - we tried an online supplier and they werent very helpful!

Our questions are ..

1. Could a carpet be fitted without removing all the items such as sofas and a sideboard or do we need to vlear the room completely

2. Would most fitters be happy to move furniture around the room As they worked?

3. Would a fitter usually remove the old carpet and dispose of it?

Any advice would be great plus recommendations of good fitters of course

Thanks

Sally

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Stephen Tozer (he has a thread here somewhere).

In answer to your questions:

1 Yes the room needs to be clear

2 Often fitters will charge extra for this but I expect it depends on how many items and who the fitter is

3 Again depends on the fitter and they may charge you for disposal
