Re: Problems with Virgin Media internet connection?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else been experiencing problems with their Virgin Media internet connection (fibreoptic cable)? We have had no problems with ours for 8 months until 3 weeks ago. We seem to lose connection several times a day now (and get the message "connected with limited access" which really results in no access) when we try to connect.

We had someone from the company come down and spend 4 hours trying to fix the problem on Saturday but no improvement yet! According to him, it could be beacuse a lot of people in the area have recently signed up so it's a case of having too many people online at the same time. I don't really buy that!

We had a similar problem for a few weeks. It seemed to go away in the end, so I never got to the bottom of it. Otherwise the Virgin service has been excellent. We have just upgraded to the 20MB service which is fantasticly quick.

BTW, how much do you currently pay? We pay a good ?60 a month, but that includes t'internet, TV, V+ and telephone.

I use Waitrose for broadband, (excellent - haven't had any problems) BT for my line rental and 18185 for calls. They are extremely cheap. half a pence for calls to the United States, plus a tiny connection fee and UK calls are nothing, but there is also a tiny connection fee. I have only a freeview box which is sufficient for my needs. My phone bill for 6 weeks was about ?7.00 and that included loads of long US calls.

We've had problems with the Virgin recently - network connection disappears completely but when I called them they said there were no reports of problems in the area. Resetting everything eventually seems to do the trick.

Had Virgin (ntl) broadband for 5 years now since I started as a Trialist (they had upgraded the network. Very rarely have a problem but when I do a reboot of the modem usually does the trick. The other reason for problems is sometimes when they (Virgin) are working in an area. It does not show on their system as an issue but other areas are sometimes affected.

Have not had a problem recently though (Nunhead)

Yes I've had a few problems recently, last night especially.

Customer Services did report a problem and it solved itself a while later.

I've had my Broadband with NTL since the trial and have found it very good until recently.

I pay around ?30 for phone and 4mb Bb

I agree that resetting does seem to solve most problems.

I pay ?18 per month for Broadband and Phone, and haven't had any connectivity problems - it's occasionally very slow but think that's more my dinosaur of a PC and the wireless rather than the virgin cable itself.

Virgin "Catch up On Demand" was u/s last night.

But Broadband & phone all seemed fine.

On the couple of occasions that we have had to call (free!) Virgin to sort something, their call centre has handled things very well.

& still much cheaper than our old BT & Sky bills were.

ps. If the current offer to new customers is better/faster than you existing package, they are willing to upgrade you to the same deal without question. Well anyway, they did for us!

My problem with Virgin is that the Internet suddenly seems to fall into a circularity with the 'Connecting' icon going round and round, but nothing happening. I usually have to shut down the Internet and go back in at least twice before it starts working again.

We just had our Virgin broadband connected 10 days ago.... maybe that's what's slowing the system down! It was great for the first week, but the last 2 nights it's been extremely slow. Mornings it seems to be fine.

We have down the telephone line Virgin broadband - the 8mb we subscribe for is lucky if it ever reaches 2mb. 2 years ago we were getting at least 5-6mb but I think Virgin is more interested in getting as many customers as possible rather than thinking about quality of service. The last few days we have also experienced constant outage and having to un-plug/re-plug the modem router to get a signal.

Was thinking of moving across to the fibre optic cable - do people using this find they get close to the advertised line speed or does this also suffer from oversupply?

I hope I'm not speaking too soon but problems seems to have been solved, as connection has been fine for the last couple of days. Fingers crossed- it stays that way!

We have had VM for almost a year and have had no problems with them until now. I totally recommend it and hope this was just a slight glitch.

Mine had another 'episode' for about an hour but seems to be running OK again now. Could always rely on it before but now it is very temperamental. Glad I'm not relying on it for work at the moment but - more importantly - couldn't get my morning EDF fix!

Since I posted on Tuesday saying all was well.......

It would seem I need to open my mouth to change feet.

Last night there was very patchy connection.

With a man seen delving in the box at the top of the Rd during the day.

If still the case this evening I'll give them a call & see what they say.

    • It doesn't work as a commercial venture.  Bit churlish to say I told you so.  I told you so.  I'll send less greetings cards.  What pees me off is international postage where you can no longer send light letters at 10 grammes, normal ones up to 20g, now all at the much more expensive 100 g  Didn't we vote to take back control and price everything according to irrational units like ounces? That's some obscure humour btw
    • Available from Monday April 8th 2024, 2on2Walkies take pride in doggie care and only walk 2 furry friends at a time. I make sure that they get plenty of doggie interaction and socialisation in the park as well as making friends. Back home happy and tired I always check that the water bowl has fresh water and always make sure the doggie is left comfortable before I leave. I'm fully insured and have a couple of slots available for local walks to either Peckham Rye Park or Dulwich Park.  Thank you!
    • Why would they only send them recorded delivery? I used the signed for option yesterday.
