Duppytown? Which part of Dulwich is this?

Recommended Posts

Champion Hill and Dog Kennel Hill (ish) (Duppy Town), Kinswood estate SE21 (ghost Town), (hence previous problems with Kingsdale school), Gipsy hill + Norwood, loose affiliation of groups, Musical affiliations, white bandana's and all that goes with it.

African American is the term in America - but we're not america - but I thought Black was seen as more acceptable today than my parents term of 'coloured' which is very uncorrect now.

Is it me, or is the use of a word like Duppy not simply racist?

To my great embarrassment, my Grandfather one referred to the people of Sudan (for whom he nearly died and had a huge amount of respect) as Fuzzy-Wuzzies. This jokey 'innocent at the time' sort of phrase used by one racial type against any other race - either by the majority or minority serves only to draw further differences and misunderstandings of respect and understanding between groups.

Racism cuts both ways - you can't cry foul and then change the rules.
