Chalk markings on house

Thanks all. We've now realised it says YOI (whatever that means?!) and unfortunately, despite my husband scrubbing it for an hour, it still shows up when you shine a light on it. Grrrrr! If anyone's had any success in removing chalk of brickwork, please let me know!

We don't have a high performance vehicle - we have a KIA Sportage but it is a new one.

If you were a scout for an organised burglary ring, would you:

a) write something on the house in chalk, leaving your burglary chums to scour the neighbourhood looking for your markings, as in some kind of bizarre tea-leaf treasure hunt.

or

b) note down the address?

The old myth of chalk markings used to be that tramps and beggars would mark up houses where they might expect a soft touch, often (and this shows its age) because the maid or cook would be sympathetic. Or indeed where they might expect the dogs to be set on them, as a warning.

I am happy to stand corrected, but I would place this at the vandalism, rather than the burglary, end of the crime spectrum.

We had a tip to use methylated spirits to wash it off which seems to have largely worked. Just in case this is useful for someone else...

James - great idea about contacting the Council, thanks. I'd have done that if our DIY hadn't worked.

Dulwich Fox - that's interesting about the YOI - I hadn't thought to Google it!

Careful...there is a YOT or young offending team there not a YOI which is an actual prison or institution. Slight but significant difference!

Hi Im a Graphologist, I specialise in the analysis of hand writing and work closely with police providing profiling of kidnappers, murders and vandals in the dulwich area. My highest profile case was finding the culprit behind the infamous "dobbing" who plagued schools for many of years. It was once believe that the male genitalia commonly scrawled on mainly school and other public property was the work of many children, possessed by some kind of homosexual "dobb" demon. But although my uncle said he once saw a ghost, i don't believe in spirits or demons so i set out to solve the case.

I had to study a lot of dobbs, give them long hard stares, hundreds of them for hours at a time, sometimes two at a time and from all over the country. Sometimes when i slept i saw dobbs, it was a very intense case. I took very detailed notes collating size, shape, length, number pubic hairs and jets of liquid protruding from their tips. There we similarities despite the huge distances and the sheer volume i was able to conclude that this was the work of one man.

Ian Bellingham was finally arrested on August 9th 2013 ( yes thats right the brother of the famous poster boy for the "keep britian tidy" campaign, Ted Bellingham), my research had meant i was able to predict his next hit. Recent drawings had become more frantic with in increased shaft length along with more further reaching liquid projectiles, the next hit was going to be big....but where? Bellingham was giving us clues, and very obvious ones, they were there the whole time! The direction of the liquid projects were pointing to the next location....but how far? I went back to initial research and was able to created an algorithm from the data: Pubic hair / shaft length * no of balls to the power of squirts = number of miles. I alerted the police immediately,

"he's going to "dobb" margate!"

"but where!?" said the officer on the phone.

"MARGATE! he's going to dobb Margate! the whole town, We have to go now!".

In hindsight i was a little premature to get to margate, my algorithm didn't predict when..... just where. in reality we could have waited and booked the train ticket in advance and saved ?12.80, we waited around for hours waiting for hours for him to show,

Eventually we were alerted to a suspicious "road worker" painting a continuos white line....it was bellingham, the hunt was over.

The surprisingly charming Bellingham once arrested confessed to everything, police searched his home they found terrifying plans for a neil buchanan scale attack. A "dobb" that could be seen from google earth! Luckily this won't ever happen.

Anyway like i was saying I'm the best and i would you like me to investigate this case.

Theboyjc could be onto something

Yo may well be for Yo sushi. They are notorious for their aggressive canvassing, meaning that if this not removed it is likely your property could be compulsorily purchased and turned into rather excellent Japanese chain restaurants

I will do some research and post back shortly

best wishes

You may be onto something here Collin......something seems a bit fishy (no pun intended) here....The YO sushi thing keeps coming back to me and it feels like this could be some sort of sick viral social media campaign launched by the restaurant chain...think we should keep our eyes peeled for hashtags at the end of such graffiti work!

no no this is far far sinister.

this is just a hunch but i've been hearing about these vintage gangs from New York, they are like retro modern battle re-nenactors. if this what i think it is, this being which it might be; Dulwich maybe about to be plagued with poppers and lockers, i don't want to cause panic but the words like YO are the early indication, soon it maybe things like "WORD" "FRESH" and then "JIBE SUCKER!" spray painted across the walls, its a call to arms! The bronx during the 80's was brought to a stand still for 3 months simply due to the shear number of people break dancing in bit of vinyl in the street, you couldn't go anywhere without getting wet spray paint on your clothes...it was horrible.

At all costs if you see any signs of B-boys, breakers, poppers and lockers you must report it to the police immediately

Be more vigilanterer East "side" dulwich.......

Loz,

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ali_Baba

...Ali Baba brings the body home, where he entrusts Morgiana, a clever slave-girl in Cassim's household, with the task of making others believe that Cassim has died a natural death.[4] First, Morgiana purchases medicines from an apothecary, telling him that Cassim is gravely ill. Then, she finds an old tailor known as Baba Mustafa whom she pays, blindfolds, and leads to Cassim's house. There, overnight, the tailor stitches the pieces of Cassim's body back together, so that no one will be suspicious. Ali Baba and his family are able to give Cassim a proper burial without anyone asking awkward questions.

The thieves, finding the body gone, realize that yet another person must know their secret, and set out to track him down. One of the thieves goes down to the town and comes across Baba Mustafa, who mentions that he has just sewn a dead man's body back together. Realizing that the dead man must have been the thieves' victim, the thief asks Baba Mustafa to lead the way to the house where the deed was performed. The tailor is blindfolded again, and in this state he is able to retrace his steps and find the house. The thief marks the door with a symbol, for the other thieves to come back that night and kill everyone in the house. However, the thief has been seen by Morgiana, and she, loyal to her master, foils his plan by marking all the houses in the neighborhood with a similar marking. When the forty thieves return that night, they cannot identify the correct house and their leader, in a furious rage, kills the unsuccessful thief. The next day, another thief revisits Baba Mustafa and tries again, only this time, a chunk is chipped out of the stone step at Ali Baba's front door. Again Morgiana foils the plan by making similar chips in all the other doorsteps, and the second thief is killed for his failure as well.

    • Yet another increase, its absolutely disgusting. I was charged £7.95 to send documents recorded delivery last week. I asked for the Signed for option that only costs £2.50 but the Post Office refused & said they would only send them recorded delivery.
    • Thanks Admin for clarifying - I’ve now found the post they used to scrape my telephone number from. So it wasn’t a data breach from EDF, rather my foolishness posting it online 15 years ago…    Still leaving this thread here if that’s ok so that people are aware of this scam and don’t fall foul of it (also to think twice before posting phone numbers here as it can be used by any one as I’ve found out!)
    • There is deliberately nowhere to enter your phone number, name, address etc anywhere when registering an account on this forum. There never has been. There is no way to attach this sort of personal information to your account.  If someone says that EDF has given your phone number, then this is a lie. No personal information is sold to any third party and it is not collected in the first place.
