2nd Hand Vespa Parts

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have just bought a 2002 Vespa ET4 off a friend of a friend with the instruction that it needs a few new parts. I'm completely in the dark when it comes to bikes/scooters and so was wondering if anyone knew how much I should be spending on the following second hand parts (I'm going to try and source them off gumtree, the pricing seems to differ quite a lot):

1. Exhaust

2. Battery

3. Spark Plug

Looking for standard quality, nothing fancy.

Thanks for the help in advance,

Harry

Hi

Exhausts can be a bit pricey and I wouldn't expect much change out of ?100 for one but could be much more. Spark plugs you can buy online for a tenner and a new battery is about ?30/40.

I take my bike to Honda riders in Peckham, they should be able to sort out all the repairs. Aside from the exhaust it shouldn't be too expensive.

I would also recommend Honda Riders (they do all makes, not just Hondas). I've been taking my Vespa there for years and they are always friendly and helpful. I would also agree with the prices above for new spares - a quick search on the internet will show you what's about but I wouldn't think it's worth going second hand with any of these bits except, possibly, the exhaust if you're lucky enough to find a nearly new one off a crashed bike or similar.

    • Aria has been great with fitting a new shower and rearranging some pipe work for us. He was quick, approachable and even highlighted that the shower manufacturer offered a cheap installation (we didn’t do this in the end as needed something else done as well). He was able to complete the work soon after his initial visit. Would recommend!
    • Yes but the point of saying "through" or "thru" is that it unambiguously includes Friday!!! "Monday to Friday" might or might not include Friday. "Monday through Friday" very clearly does include Friday. Nothing wrong with a useful expression that just happens to come from America, surely? Much of our modern language does originally, just as much of their language came from us originally. Times change, and all that ....
    • I'd say sending them  the affidavit and offering them a full refund for the return of the machines is a great idea. By far the least hassle for you, and will put them on the spot if they have been telling lies. If you end up having to give them the refund, you will be no worse off than you were before the sale (assuming they don't damage the machines, of course). But I know nothing about the legal issues (if any) around all this. Citizens Advice might help if you run into further difficulties? Good luck!
    • The point is that these door to door sellers are doing it under false pretences, and claiming to be part of a project that doesn't exist.
