police using speed radar checks on camberwell grove

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've just been zapped by a policeman who was on camberwell grove just before the lights. There was a group of approx 5 of them. Each time a car went past, they popped out and zapped them. It's a 20mph zone but I've no idea what I was doing. I suspect above 20 but no much. I didn't see them and only realised after I drove past.

So, my question is: if I was above 20mph would they pull me up straight away? Or is the fact they let me drive on mean I'm ok?

I doubt I was more than 25mph and def not as high as 30mph.

Well there are various schemes where motorists will be sent a letter.. or a Police Officer will pay them a visit..

you could get a warning but persistent offenders will be fined... There is a new camera that will do this being trialed

in parts of the UK.

There are going to be so many people creeping over the 20MPH limit getting fines... gettting points ... losing their licences.. There will soon be far fewer cars on the road..

These new cameras are tiny and do not use film...

It will have been the Community Roadwatch scheme.

Run by the police and TFL with local residents who have complained.

28mph+ and you will get sent a letter only reminding you of the limit.

Unless you are on their system as having previous, so to speak.

From what I gather from a friend who went to a neighbourhood police forum, that the Police do not feel that 20mph is realistic on main roads as most people go over that but they have noted that in these areas, people are usually sticking to under 30 mph. A general decrease in speeding.

No doubt the same group who many years ago wanted to put a toll gate across Camberwell Grove as it was used as a rat

run and caused residents to suffer noise.

Although it is a major road going at an excess speed is very difficult, rather like LL from Goose green up to Townley Road.

If the police do not have a problem why should Southwark Council try to impose their speed limit.

    • That is clearly not true. I see car drivers breaking the law on an hourly basis - jumping red lights, speeding, not obeying the general rules. Plus they are operating considerably more dangerous machinery and should have a greater responsibility of care to other road uses. You can see who causes the most harm by the stats.

    • A quick Google found this, amongst other things: "Social impact models are frameworks or approaches that guide how organizations or initiatives address social or environmental problems."
    • "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck then it must be a duck" comes to mind Unfortunately, a large number of cyclists do exhibit selfish amd anti social behaviour which, regardless of how many good cyclists there are, is seen as the norm.  It's a bit like one car driver jumping a red light and all car drivers getting tarred by the same brush. Perception is the issue and if cyclists all obeyed the rules, everyone would be less anti them but unfortunately that isn't the case 🤔
