I was wondering if anyone in our area have visited The Centre for wildlifegardening ,Marsdenroad lately.

I was there at the weekend for a birthday party and noticed a skip in the garden with the contents of plants, compsot and resonable reusable items.

I also noticed soil, plants and trees in the skip.Aren't they promoting a free tree scheme soon,Why are they skipping trees? They have just been awarded a medal at one of their shows with A 3r's 'gardening for wildlife',Now most of it is in a large skip. This is the London wildlife trust I thought they should show us how to recycle and haven't they got compost bins, this is an education centre for all the local schools I have two kids who tell me they go to school visits ,by seening wildlife in a skip and things that could be easliy reused and recycled I think they sending out a wrong message to our children, any members who support London wildlife trust will be very dissapointed to see ornatmental grasses ,hosta's and a big skip appearing in the garden.I hope Soutwark and green people will take action .

have a visit ,I would say Very Soon.

I have taken some photo's.

Exactly, Taper.

Why not ask one of the volunteers what was being done, or calling to find out, instead of jumping in with a speculative and hostile post?

Or better yet volunteer some of your own time and help them make the best use of their resources?

The Garden is a fantastic thing to have nearby.

Btw, for all you keen gardeners out there, they'll gladly accept any old plant pots- I never knew what to do with them before.

I really hope not, it's a lovely little oasis, many times I've headed over there to escape the hustle and bustle of SE22/SE15 and they run great educational programmes for local schools and nurseries.

As with most things run on a voluntary basis, if we want it to continue we may have to step up our own voluntary service - just depends how much we want it i guess.......

Thanks for the heads-up anyway, I will wander down this week and ask for some more details. x

    • You can request for them to come and collect your full bins again https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/ShowForm.asp?fm_fid=1879 They usually come on whatever day your rubbish/recycling collection day is. If you aren't going to be in, leave them somewhere that they can find it. If you don't need replacements, just leave a note on the full ones that a replacement isn't needed.  They usually come quite early, so it's better to leave them outside if you can.
    • Just wondering- what were they arrested for? If you remember
    • Cyclists certainly do have a bit of a perception problem at the moment and when I cycle I see a lot of examples of arrogance and ignorance that gives all cyclists a bad name - it does seem that many cyclists have caught the entitlement bug many drivers seem to have.
    • But Spartacus didn't mention the significant amounts of land being used for car storage - that was most definitely you.   And I am afraid when you apply your same measure to other transport uses (like cycleways and cycle lanes - Malumbu is your stat on the 360 kms of cycle network cycleways or cycle lanes?) then it most definitely is relevant for the debate.   Should we assume then that if all this ULEZ money and government bailout money is being poured into TFL then the system is, financially at least, broken or is it a case that the money is being mis-spent (like the DV junction project)?
