Warning : theft just now at gym on crystal palace road

We have just been swimming at the pool and had our locker smashed in in the family changing room and our nanny's phone has been stolen, we have reported it to the police and they have advised that someone's keys were also stolen and the thieves then stole this poor person's car!

Just a warning to all as I very foolishly thought that if we locked our belongings in a locker for 40 minutes they would be safe until we returned!

I feel so sorry for the guy who had is car stolen.

That's shocking to hear. Thanks for the warning - best leave valuables at home then.

The lockers are long overdue for replacement, with what looks like half out of action, but Everyone Active haven't got around to them yet. Hopefully this will encourage them to take action. Worth mentioning this to James Barber as he was helpful in getting them to deal with some problems there as I note they now have a female cleaner and female lifeguard again.

I imagine all sports centres are vulnerable to this kind of opportunist theft. It happened at Crystal Palace Rd centre while I was there one evening. They did identify the thief then and maybe there is a correlation in some way that may help you. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1143931,1143931#msg-1143931

HI all, yes apparently there is CCTV so the police were requesting to see that and the police have also advised that there were two cars stolen and it wasn't just the family changing room that got worked over it was also the men's changing rooms so it became quite obvious there was more than one person in on the theft.

I still feel so shocked that people had their cars stolen in the middle of the day whilst they were swimming but I guess phones and keys are easy to hide.

Hi Jules - I'm the lady you were chatting to in the glass box while this was happening. I'm so sorry this happened. Sadly I didn't see anything or anyone (one of the staff approached me afterwards to ask me). Unbeknownst to me my daughter and friend had left their stuff unlocked in the lockers in the ladies changing room (including some valuables) and none of that stuff was touched. So it seems pretty clear whoever it was didn't go into the women's changing rooms. Do let me know if I can help in any way.

Worrying, as I always rush to the gym after work and therefore have no option but to carry my phone, keys credit card etc with me.

I would assume the people must have been working in pairs with one as lookout whilst the other breaks in?

The timing of this in half term makes me wonder if youths were involved?

Yes, unfortunately I'm told this is quite common in many gyms. A few years ago I had my locker broken into at a central London gym (I was a regular member with a specific locker) and as it was after work I had items of significant value stolen including my phone, wallet and house keys. I was told by the police at the time that such incidents can sometimes be inside jobs whereby an employee of the gym can advise the thief which lockers to target! On this occasion as the only two lockers broken into had significant valuables this makes sense. As a result, as well as moving to a new gym, I now take limited valuables with me when I work out and also take my phone into the gym with me.

    • Plenty for sale online from various ticket vendors but you'll need to part with £250 and upwards by the looks of it. Out of interest i kept an eye on the prices for the England and Italy Euro final. At one point they were on offer for a couple of grand each. On the day sellers were obviously getting itchy feet and prices dropped somewhat but never went any lower than £400. That was a few hours before kick off. There was plenty still available half an hour before kick off.   Having been to Wembley a couple of times for play off finals i found it to be not a great place to watch football. Sat three rows back from the pitch side advertising hoardings for one game and way way up in the gods for the other. We felt to far away from the pitch on both occasions. Up in the goods was just stupid because we felt cut off as well.  I don't think it was rebuilt with acoustics in mind either. Even with most of our 25k fans singing it never sounded loud because it's pretty much uncovered and too open.   Happy hunting!
    • It doesn't work as a commercial venture.  Bit churlish to say I told you so.  I told you so.  I'll send less greetings cards.  What pees me off is international postage where you can no longer send light letters at 10 grammes, normal ones up to 20g, now all at the much more expensive 100 g  Didn't we vote to take back control and price everything according to irrational units like ounces? That's some obscure humour btw
    • Available from Monday April 8th 2024, 2on2Walkies take pride in doggie care and only walk 2 furry friends at a time. I make sure that they get plenty of doggie interaction and socialisation in the park as well as making friends. Back home happy and tired I always check that the water bowl has fresh water and always make sure the doggie is left comfortable before I leave. I'm fully insured and have a couple of slots available for local walks to either Peckham Rye Park or Dulwich Park.  Thank you!
    • Why would they only send them recorded delivery? I used the signed for option yesterday.
