Attempted scooter theft @ 05:30am

Recommended Posts

Saw on saturday, whilst walking down lordship lane towards the library - two scooters coming up the road, so close together they looked to be touching (which was what caught my eye). As they zipped past, I heard an alarm sounding - I was too slow on the uptake to get any details, but I realised as they disappeared into the distance that one scooter was stolen, alarm blaring, and the rider was holding onto the other black scooter and was being towed along the road. They must have broken the steering lock and couldnt start it. 4pm in the afternoon, broad daylight.

Yeah unfortunately that was my bike! It's sad as its not worth a lot and I was a little careless not locking it up etc. I assumed it was stolen then found it further down the street so I assume that someone or something put them off - so thanks for that! I had bought a cheap runner twist and go for commuting thinking it would be less of a reason to steal it but I'm now thinking the opposite may be true and they probably can't ride a manual!

Sad to say but it seems to be somewhat of an epidemic in the area with no end in sight.

At 16:50 today a black scooter hazarded its way north up Peckham Rye with two young people on board, maybe 15/16 years old. Scooter has a white 'foreign' number plate on the rear with vehicle index M83 2820. Went through a red light past an on coming bus and continued up towards Copeland Road. Both had dark helmets and balaclavas on underneath though I could see the driver was IC1 and the pillion IC3. Though the driver was in all black, the pillion had light grey top and bottom type of track suit.

unfortunately, it's a big problem and and a headache and worry for every motorist in london but also across the UK.

take a look at UKMTP {http://ukmtp.co.uk/}

A second big protest (friendly) ride is being held this Saturday, 1st of april to raise awareness.

FYI, I saw them too (on Fellbrigg Road) and reported them to 101.

    • Yet another increase, its absolutely disgusting. I was charged £7.95 to send documents recorded delivery last week. I asked for the Signed for option that only costs £2.50 but the Post Office refused & said they would only send them recorded delivery.
    • Thanks Admin for clarifying - I’ve now found the post they used to scrape my telephone number from. So it wasn’t a data breach from EDF, rather my foolishness posting it online 15 years ago…    Still leaving this thread here if that’s ok so that people are aware of this scam and don’t fall foul of it (also to think twice before posting phone numbers here as it can be used by any one as I’ve found out!)
    • There is deliberately nowhere to enter your phone number, name, address etc anywhere when registering an account on this forum. There never has been. There is no way to attach this sort of personal information to your account.  If someone says that EDF has given your phone number, then this is a lie. No personal information is sold to any third party and it is not collected in the first place.
