Number 12 bus

Recommended Posts

Today for the second time in two weeks I had to get a number 12 bus home from Oxford Circus due to problems with the Jubilee Line.

Both times the bus was hotter than Hades with no windows that open and no form of air conditioning or air cooling in evidence.

What the hell is wrong with the design of these 'new' busses?

Surely the whole idea of having sealed windows should be due to air cooling but Ive never seen any in evidence.

Likewise back in February when I couldn't get the overground due to snow stopping the service i got on a 12 with no heating that was like spending 70 miniutes (I get off at Oxford Circus)In an ice cube.

There has been a lot in the press about heat on the underground but I get the Jubilee line every day and at least the windows open each end of the carriage giving a semblance of breeze, and they do have fans.

But trust me the number 12 is way hotter than the underground and I can't believe this hasn't been flagged by the press as this is a new state of the art bus that a lot of money has been spent on.

bring back the old route master!

Air conditioning will cool - and, importantly, dehumidify - an outside temperature from a rough maximum of 55C to a minimum of around 18-20C

Air *cooling* is just a big fan. The old buses with opening front window and roof windows were probably much cooler in summer.

Anyway, it has been reported in the press ad infinitum... https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=boris+bus+hot&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

But the 12 appears to have no cooling system at all!

Whats more all the press items date from up to 5 years ago and still nothing has been done! at around 350k per bus its a joke!

Yup! Noisy, hot, claustrophobic. A bit like their sponsor.

Boris Buses are meant to have air conditioning but the design doesn't work - preferred the huge bendy things to be honest.

Air conditioning seems to be breaking in this heat - work, local pret, local wetherspoons all struggling not M&S though.

This might have something to do with the fact that Boris got his chum Thomas Heatherwick to design the bus when Heatherwick's company had no experience of bus design. This is not entirely unrelated to one of the other Boris vanity projects, the Thames Garden Bridge - in April 2017 a Mayor of London report criticised the appointments of Heatherwick Studio and engineer Arup in 2013 which "were not open, fair or competitive ? and revealed systematic failures and ineffective control systems".

The concourse M&S at London Bridge had no chillers working this morning. Lots of disgruntled-looking hungry commuters...

I didn?t know this thanks

I will eschew the rigours of the 12 for any other bus going my way, mainly because I prefer to travel on an elevated seat. Those on the 12 which face each other are too small and there is no room for 4 pairs of feet.

I suspect the M&S aircon is not any old aricon though. It's M&S aircon!

Yeah the Boris buses are like travelling ovens, have been since they first rolled out. They tried to retro-fit windows to the top deck to improve the situation but it hasn't done anything. As others have said, another ridiculous vanity project from our former mayor.

    • Plenty for sale online from various ticket vendors but you'll need to part with £250 and upwards by the looks of it. Out of interest i kept an eye on the prices for the England and Italy Euro final. At one point they were on offer for a couple of grand each. On the day sellers were obviously getting itchy feet and prices dropped somewhat but never went any lower than £400. That was a few hours before kick off. There was plenty still available half an hour before kick off.   Having been to Wembley a couple of times for play off finals i found it to be not a great place to watch football. Sat three rows back from the pitch side advertising hoardings for one game and way way up in the gods for the other. We felt to far away from the pitch on both occasions. Up in the goods was just stupid because we felt cut off as well.  I don't think it was rebuilt with acoustics in mind either. Even with most of our 25k fans singing it never sounded loud because it's pretty much uncovered and too open.   Happy hunting!
    • It doesn't work as a commercial venture.  Bit churlish to say I told you so.  I told you so.  I'll send less greetings cards.  What pees me off is international postage where you can no longer send light letters at 10 grammes, normal ones up to 20g, now all at the much more expensive 100 g  Didn't we vote to take back control and price everything according to irrational units like ounces? That's some obscure humour btw
    • Available from Monday April 8th 2024, 2on2Walkies take pride in doggie care and only walk 2 furry friends at a time. I make sure that they get plenty of doggie interaction and socialisation in the park as well as making friends. Back home happy and tired I always check that the water bowl has fresh water and always make sure the doggie is left comfortable before I leave. I'm fully insured and have a couple of slots available for local walks to either Peckham Rye Park or Dulwich Park.  Thank you!
    • Why would they only send them recorded delivery? I used the signed for option yesterday.
