Heard that this is set to open on Lordship Lane. Great news as it will be run by the same people as the Crofton Park one which is fantastic.

Good news Ė and confirmed on Twitter by Penge's Southey Brewing, who also run the Brighton Beer Dispensary:

Whereabouts?

I'm excited! I love a good tap room style bar.

Although having looked at the twitter feed, I'm now seriously tempted to track down some of Siren's Gin and Tonic Gose!

They are taking over Barcelona (the tapas place that closed down). I've heard it should be ready to open by next month! Can't wait.

As a resident of Melford Road this sounds like great news if it all turns out to be true.

Definitely a need in that area for somewhere to buy a pint.

I'd really question the viability of it, so far off the beaten track. But yeah, great news if you live in the no-mans-land between East Dulwich and Forest Hill, and like beer.

It would be a destination though, wouldn't it.

And surely it's exactly because it's in what is presently a drought place for beer that it would do well?

I would go, and I don't live up that end of ED.

ETA: No I didn't go to Barcelona (twice was enough) but that was because it was crap big grin

It's not off the beaten track for people that live there. Currently no pub between The Plough and Forest Hill.

Exactly.

And if you're walking to the old FHT (blast from the past - now the WGT ) - it's a stop over smiling smiley

messageRe: Dulwich Beer Dispensary

Depending where you start from of course..

Inevitably those who live nearby will defend the location.

Sorry, it's still going to be a difficult site.

messageRe: Dulwich Beer Dispensary
Posted by Gubodge September 05, 02:43PM

The site canít be that difficult given that Barcelona, despite being rubbish, was successful there for at least 15 years.

messageRe: Dulwich Beer Dispensary
Posted by DulwichSal September 05, 03:45PM

If it is indeed happening it is a long way off - I walked past last night and it is still full of Barcelona's old toot and no sign of any works happening.

messageRe: Dulwich Beer Dispensary

It depends what you mean by a difficult site - it won't be close to the rest of the bars and restaurants on Lordship Lane so they won't get as much passing business or people stopping in before going to the cinema or on to eat. At the same time, there's a huge amount of homes nearby - the LL Estate, Underhill/Overhill/Melford/SC end of Wood Vale/Horniman that don't have anywhere to drink within a 10 minute walk. Come up with something that appeals to the local residents rather than passing trade and it will do well.

I don't think it's about "defending" the location - more that most of us would love somewhere to go out for a beer that involved a short walk - the Grove was always busy before it shut after the fire and Barcelona was averagely busy considering it wasn't great at food (I do miss the sangria though).

and a tremendous number of alcoholics in the area

The word is that it's going to open next month. I've seen work going on inside and I really can't wait. As others have said there is nothing between the Plough and Forest Hill and I can't wait. A little worried about the time I might spend in there...

Good, overpriced, overcold overfizzy over-flavoured beer. Enjoy.

Refreshes the parts other beers can't reach

(that's what I often drink)

Great to have an option for people in that area, and looks like quite a cool setup, as opposed to a standard bar chain. Its a big space, so lots of options for how to set it up.

messageRe: Dulwich Beer Dispensary

I know a few people who travel to a good beer stop. And a tap-style which gives opportunities to experiment with thirds etc is something we donít have many of in this neck of the woods. I travel into ED or FH for other drinks cuisines - itís not exactly a tough ask with 5 buses stopping within 100m.

Not to mention the groups who do the Green Chain Walk etc - a good outdoor spot at the bottom of the hill will be great.
