Missing post since sorting office moved to peckham

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else?s post started going missing since the closure of the silvester road sorting office? Over the past month I have had 2 debit cards not arrive (one of which was actually used a few times in Peckham before the bank stopped it), one credit card and some important legal documents all disappear. Local gossip is that there us a huge amount of criminal activity related to the Peckham sorting office and I wondered if anyone else has experienced the same.

I have reported to the police who have advised they will be dropping the case without investigating (despite available CCTV etc), and have reported to the royal mail who claim they will investigate but... well who knows. Meanwhile not a single card or important document seems to make it through my letterbox unless it?s recorded delivery.

Anyone know what we can do about this?

I just checked the forum to see if there were any issues with local post, as I haven't received anything since last Thursday, and I'm expecting several items.

My wife had a new credit card stolen in the post and subsequently used, the week before last.

Irrespective of the grossly inconvenient re-location, this all sounds quite concerning...

I have had a replacement credit card intercepted and within 3 days they've done about 10 transactions on contactless in Peckham primark, Nando's and petrol stations ! Danger to everyone avoid this post office if you can ! Will be reporting to police

I also have missing mail - 3 packages. Tracking shows items are still within Highshore Road after 6 weeks!

Our Postie has enquired about them but they cannot be found.

Problem has arisen, I believe, because the Posties are no longer able to use trolleys. The carry only what they can in thir shouder bags. Parcels take up too much space and weigh more than letters so parcels get left behind. And then, who knows what happens to them!

I spoke to a Postie doing a round in SE21 ( he operates out of Aleyn Park Rd) and he said everyone was aware that Highshore Road was an unmitigated disaster.

At the meeting, Craig Wallace said that every sorting office in the country had heard of the Sylvester road sorting office because they always needed extra staff. According to him, it?s the only one in the country with those problems which is why he decided to close it a month after arriving there!!

The decision surely can't have been taken at his level.

  • 2 weeks later...
I?ve submitted an online complaint because I?ve had a lot of post go missing. Most recently I?ve received a final warning for an unpaid utility bill from my old supplier. Not good. If we all submit complaints something might change, no?

Our postie said last week that there were still piles of undelivered mail left over from the Silvester Road sorting office in their backlog and that regular posties were, against their employment agreements (due to incline, physical ability to be capable/not capable of doing certain routes) being sent on routes other than their regular ones instead of these being covered by the agency staff. He also mentioned that they were all getting a bad name now as the Peckham sorting office had a bad rep as everyone knew that organised fraud went on in there, but the Police had never done anything about it in years and a lot of people had their hands dirty.

I waited outside for almost an hour in the freezing cold last Saturday, with the queue backing up down the road in front of the Peckham sorting office and the lady who retrieved my wife's parcel was charming and very helpful, despite it almost being closing time by the time I got seen and there being an angry mob outside. Nothing was missing in the parcel either.

Have Royal Mail indicated what is going to happen to the backlog of undelivered post ? Have a new Postie / van driver and tend to see them delivering post daily . Have started using post office in Camberwell for sending letters etc albeit less convenient but uses different sorting office.

The Peckham office is for incoming items to be delivered in the area only, isn't it?

    • interesting read.  We're thinking about the same things for our kids in primary school as well. One thing I don't understand about Charter ED is whether they stream / set kids based on ability.  I got the impression from an open evening that it is done a little as possible. All i could find on-line was this undated letter - https://www.chartereastdulwich.org.uk/_site/data/files/users/18/documents/9473A8A3547CCCD39DBC4A55CA1678DC.pdf?pid=167 For the most part, we believe in mixed ability teaching and do not stream in Year 7 or Year 8. The only exceptions to this are that we have a small nurture class for Maths. This is a provision for students who scored lower than 85 in their SATS exams and is designed to support them to acquire the skills to access the learning in mainstream class. We do not have nurture classes for any other subjects. We take a more streamed - though not a setted - approach in Maths and Science from Year 9 onwards. though unsure if this is still accurate reflection of policy, and unsure of difference between streaming and setting.
    • Hello, I'm looking for an entertainer for my 9 year old son's birthday party. Looking for someone who can organise some games for the kids as my son and his friends are quite active. Regards, Sue
    • My son’s primary school hatched duck eggs, probably under this scheme around 12 years ago.  We were all very upset to hear that 2 of the (5 year old) boys had knocked the incubator over & all eggs smashed.   feeling a lot less sad about that now!
    • What would I do about cyclists?  The failed Tory manfesto commitment to train all kids was an excellent proposal.  Public information campaigns aimed at all road users, rather than singling some out, to more considerately share the road, as TfL have done, is welcome too. As for crunching vehicles.  I'd extend this to illegal ebikes, illegal e-scoooters (I think some local authorities have done this with the latter) but before that I would (a) legislate that the delivery companies move away from zero hours contracts to permanent employees and take responsibility for their training, vehicles and behaviour on the road.   More expensive takeaways are a price worth paying for safer roads and proper terms and conditions (b) legislate to register all illegal e-bikes and scooters so that when they are found on the road the retailer takes a hit, and clamp down on any grey markets.  If you buy an e scooter say from Halfords this comes with a disclaimer that it can only be used on private land with the owner's permission.
