So is Somerfield's turning into Sainsbury's?

Recommended Posts

God why do we keep going around in circles with this one? Waitrose, M&S and Sainsbury's have already been contacted regarding this site and non of them have ever had any plans to locate a store there! Get over it!

Oh I do apologise (why so stroppy?)

I was just pointing out that Co-Op have just sold 24 of their Somerfields stores to several large superrmarket chains. They have yet to confirm which ones are going to whom.

I also think it is incredibly naive to believe the emails these companies send out when asked about new store openings (of course they're going to say "we have no plans" etc. etc. That's how it works until announcements are made.)

Waitrose have been losing market share steadily over the last few months and are bringing out a 'value range' next week in an attempt to regain some ground.

Seems unlikely they will be splashing out on new stores (unfortunately).

Mick Mac thanks for warning him off - I am a lipstick wearing pitbull make no mistake. BTW James, sorry for being so ridiculously rude, but please attempt to read other threads about this subject before jumping the gun!

Hi,

I have just been speaking to a friend of my who is a specialist journalist. He said that that he has it from a very reliable source that LIDL are interested in East Dulwich Somerfield and the Woolworths store in Peckham as they are expandining due to the current market. Current trade in their stores is up by 17%, they are looking to expand with stores no more than five miles from an existing branch.

Kind regards,

Libra Carr.

If Lidl move into Somerfield site I am leaving ED on the first train or bus to Bromley.

If Lidl open yet another store in Peckham, as disapointing as it would be, and a further nail in the Rye Lane coffin, I wouldnt be surprised in all honesty.

Hi again,

I think some commentators might be confused with the brand name! Lidl is not Netto. They have branches all over Europe and in Germany by the forces bases. Most of the product sold in the shop is far superior to any English supermarket brand! Recently bottled fresh water was tested for purity and price and Lidl came tops alongside Yorkshire Water.

The only problem with Lidl is that if you only speak 'Sarf Lunnon' you will not understand the labels as they are mosty multi lingual.

Regards,

Libra Carr.

    • That is clearly not true. I see car drivers breaking the law on hourly basis - jumping red lights, speeding, not obeying the general rules. Plus they  are operating considerably more dangerous machinery and should have a greater responsibility of care to other road uses. You can see who causes the most harm by the stats.

    • A quick Google found this, amongst other things: "Social impact models are frameworks or approaches that guide how organizations or initiatives address social or environmental problems."
    • "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck then it must be a duck" comes to mind Unfortunately, a large number of cyclists do exhibit selfish amd anti social behaviour which, regardless of how many good cyclists there are, is seen as the norm.  It's a bit like one car driver jumping a red light and all car drivers getting tarred by the same brush. Perception is the issue and if cyclists all obeyed the rules, everyone would be less anti them but unfortunately that isn't the case 🤔
