The 40 bus route.

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is a lounge topic or not, but here goes anyway...

Does anyone on here get the 40 all the way into the City (across the Bridge). This week the run in from just before Borough to London Bridge has been torture... taking about 20-30 minutes to do.

This morning, I noticed that one one lane towards London Bridge was closed off next to the now derilict buildings towards London Bridge... what I started to think was maybe they've started work on those buildings as part of the cross rail development... and if that is the case, is that lane due to be shut for the forseeable????? and if so... the mad traffic to continue for a very, very long time????

Anyone got any info on this? If it turns out to be the case, might be the 08.08 from Peckham Rye for me from now on.

Cheers.

If you hit that area about 8.30 the traffic can be at a standstill to the lights on the south side of the river by london bridge station. If you leave a bit earlier, maybe getting the bus about 7.30ish you usually miss the build up of traffic. The overall journey time is shorter as well at that time of the morning.

I normally get the 40 in every morning, but have been off all week, so first time on it this morming. I get it from the Plough at 6.20, which gets to London Bridge at about 6.45, however due to the bad trafiic, it was abuot 7.05 by the time it got through all the traffic. Must be terrible later on

After a late night watching the MJ situation unfold last night i slept through my alarm this morning!

Waited about 30 mins at ED station at 8am for a 40, no sign of them either way so decided to bus-hop my way to london bridge.

It took about 1.5 hours which is way too long, a lot of buses that usually go across the bridge were terminating at elephant.

Will also try the train next week.

Longlad - thanks for the update useful to know there are problem from early on.

    • I have ordered from them and they do free delivery within a certain radius.  Have only had some of their vegetarian dishes which were all good including the onion bhajis that come with a very tasty spicy green sauce accompaniment.  Also, they start service from 1230 pm if you want lunch.
    • The bin outside Harris Primary School has been a spot for fly-tipping weekly. This is now a hazard for the children going to school every day - they have to walk over the rubbish to get into the school!  The rubbish has been there since Saturday, it is Tuesday 23 April today and nothing has been done! I've see a person who lives across the road dumping her house rubbish to into the bin but I believe it is not only her now but other people too!
