Re: LaLa Land ED Film Club: A social meetup for locals: Sat 14th Jan 2017

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm a great fan of the cheap prices at our local (ish) Peckham Plex cinema. At ?4.99 a ticket, who couldn't be?!

So I thought it would be nice to have a social group who meet on a monthly basis to enjoy the cinema and a few drinks after.

If you'd like to join a few locals to watch Side Effects this Saturday 9th March please read on.......

The Film starts at 18:30 at Peckham Plex. Visit the website to book your ticket or just get it on the night.

If you'd like to go to the cinema as a group, we will meet in The Rye Pub www.theryepeckham.com from 17:30. I'll bring a sign with me so you know where the group is!

We'll leave the pub at 18:10 which will be enough time to walk down to the cinema and for people to buy tickets. After watching the film we can return to The Rye, or perhaps a pub on Lordship Lane.

Come alone, as a couple or as a group! Absolutely everybody welcome!

PM me with any questions.

Hope to see you there, Louisa

Great, glad people are up for it. It will be good to do some local socialising, and watch a decent (hopefully) film. Side Effects has 84% on Rotten Tomatoes so it should be OK! Keep pm'ing me or replying to this thread so we have a vague idea of numbers and interest. See you Sat, Louisa

Louisa/All,

Enjoy the film; busy with Camberwell Free Film Festival which starts next week. Amongst others we are showing 'The Damned United' at Dulwich Hamlet FC on Friday 22 March. Pubwise I recommend The Gowlett on Gowlett Road SE15, 10 min walk tops from Peckham Plex and open to 1am on Saturdays.

Best

Andrew

Tonight is the first ED film Club meetup. From the pm's I've had and some messages above, there should be a good crowd of us which is great! Anyone else wishing to come, please do - see original post for details. Some people are coming on their own so don't be shy!

See you in The Rye from 5:30. I'll have a sign with me!

Kev and I really enjoyed last night, was lovely to meet such warm and friendly people. It's a shame we won't be able to make to next one as we're off on our jollies, but definately look forward to the one afterwards.

See you all then! Hannah

Of course, everyone welcome! When the film listings come out for our next meet up (27 April), I'll post an update on here, but in the meantime, save the date! Louisa

Hi Everyone,

Our second East Dulwich Film is soon approaching - this Saturday 27th April in the evening. We will be once again meeting in The Rye pub, going to Peckham Plex to watch a film for a bargain ?5, and then for anyone who'd like to come for a drink after, we'll head back to The Rye.

I'm just waiting for the film times to be published but the general consensus is to see The Look of Love - a new film directed by Michael Winterbottom, starring Anna Friel and Steve Coogan.

I'll post timings on here when they are out, but put the date in your diary if you'd like to come. We had couples and singles of all ages last time so everyone is definitely welcome!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your messages on here and the pm's.

Peckham Plex have published their film times for this Saturday. I thought they'd be showing the new Steve Coogan film but they're not, so have chosen a film called The Place Beyond the Pines, starring Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes. It has excellent reviews everywhere so fingers crossed, we should be entertained.

Here's the plan of action:

Meet in the Rye Pub at 16:30. I'll have a little sign with me, but I'll get there early and post on here where I am.

Leave The Rye to walk to Peckham Plex at 17:20

Film starts 17:50

Back to pub afterwards if you'd like to!

Our first meeting last month was really good fun and it was lovely to meet some locals, so do come along if you fancy some film watching and socialising.

Any questions let me know.

Kev and I really enjoyed this last time, so we'll be going to this too. Also I'm pleased with the film choice, we were talking about going to see this anyway, it looks really good. Hope you can make it too Tracey!

See you on Saturday,

Hannah

    • Can anyone help / offer advice, please? I just sold a fairly rare and quite valuable vintage knitting machine and accessories to a business as a private sale to a business. It's run a couple who specialise in repairing and reselling secondhand knitting machine parts. I tested the machine and accessory prior to selling and both were working. The business has just texted me with a fairly aggressive message to say 'it can't be working as part of it is missing' and that the pattern reading accessory does not work. I know that both parts were working when I handed them over, so it is just their word against mine. (I haven't replied to ask what part is missing yet) When they arrived to pick up, the owner said he needed to do 'due diligence' ie to open the case of the machine and check it was all there. He did all that and did not mention anything was missing at that point. They paid by bank transfer on pickup. Unfortunately for me, I got them to pay into my business ac (even though I no longer run a business and am retired, I still have the account) and now they say because they paid to a business ac they can dispute the payment. I did get them to sign a delivery note with a list of items that they were buying  but I did not specify 'bought as seen' on the note. How does it work when it's one person's word against another? I originally found the business online and emailed them with the details and photos. They had good reviews for selling items (but no reviews re: buying items) The owner always replied by phone rather than email so although I have notes of our conversations I do not have anything in writing from him. I'm feeling angry at having trusted them and also upset - textile design was my career before I retired and I wish I'd just given the machine to a charity now1 Any helpful advice much appreciated!
    • There are several threads on here about door to door sellers with similar false stories, but I don't know what the thread headings were or how to find them. Someone else may have a better memory! No idea who to contact, possibly the police non urgent number, can't remember what it is, sorry.
    • My objection is that it is an Americanism. Spoken id prefer Mon to Thurs. In writing Mon - Thurs.
    • Couple of likely lads knocking doors earlier this evening, claiming to be from ‘rehabilitation project’ and trying to sell cleaning kit to raise money to get into a hostel. Not really putting much effort into trying to hide that they casing local houses around the library area.  So be it, be aware. But my question is what to do in such circumstances. Should I contact police - who? how? - or the council or something? Would appreciate advice.
