Dr Bike - fixing bikes for free September 1st

Recommended Posts

The bike doctor is back. He will be under Peckham Arch, mending bikes, handing out bike wisdom and dispensing good ideas. He will fix brakes, gears and tyres but he doesn?t carry spare parts so if you know or suspect you need them bring them with you.

The Doctor sets up on the ramp from the Square between 5.30-7.30pm every other Thursday. His services are free. He is aided and abetted by able assistants and hampered by people standing around for a chat.

All welcome, tell your friends. Free

Right, an excellent question because it's so big it's hard to see. I should have added a map.

The nearest local landmarks are Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse. They are two sides (sort of) of Peckham Square. That's the official name of the open space between them. The southern side is covered by a wide arch, about 30' high and about 50' wide -- there are steps and ramps up and down from the Square and Peckham High Street.

To get there, go straight up Rye Lane (ie north) until you get to a T junction with a major road and then look across. There's a pub called the Kentish Drovers and to the right of it is the Arch. We are under there.

If you do not locate us immediately or have any other queries phone or text me on 07842 640 207 and I will magically appear etc.

they are every two weeks so the next one is September 15th same place and times.

I try and post them on the forum a couple of days beforehand.

They are also flagged on our website -- on the calendar under the events tag -- though the one on the 15th isn't up yet because I haven't put it on, my bad.

We stop for the winter at the end of October because the Arch doesn't provide enough shelter and the mechanics' hands get cold.

    • Labour are proposing to nationalise the railways, (passenger trains but not fright)  Whilst it removes them from shareholders control, and potential profit chasing, is it workable or will it end up costing tax payers more in the long run?  On paper the idea is interesting but does it also need the profitable freight arm included to help reduce fares,?
    • Another recommendation here for Jason.  He came to plaster over a section of ceiling that we had to remove in order to investigate a leak.  He is a really lovely guy, easy to get in touch with and great communication.  He was quick, tidy and competitively priced.  Very happy and I'd have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone.
