sociable cycle ride July 1st

Recommended Posts

Exploring Dulwich.

The ride meets at the Pavilion Cafe in the middle of Dulwich Park (SE21 7EA) at 10am and returns to the same place at noon. Then up Dawsons Hill for the view across to Dulwich Hamlet football stadium and down Greendale to Dulwich Village.

It continues south past Dulwich Picture Gallery and Dulwich College to the only Toll Gate in London and then loops up to Kingswood House, aka Bovril Castle. Bovril Castle/Kingswood House, is the building that is a Library and other things these days, off Seeley Drive, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingswood_House

The route then turns back through Bel Air Park, on to Herne Hill Velodrome, and back to Dulwich Park. Bruce considers that to be an easy 2 hour ride. It is shorter than usual (14,8km) but that's because he's accepted that people may feel they want to walk up the steeper bit of the ascent of Dawsons Hill. I always do personally.

    • Can't help thinking that regardless of whether Joe wanted to be interviewed, the 'story' that Southwark News wanted to write just got a lot less interesting with 'tyre shop replaced with ... tyre shop'!
    • Labour are proposing to nationalise the railways, (passenger trains but not fright)  Whilst it removes them from shareholders control, and potential profit chasing, is it workable or will it end up costing tax payers more in the long run?  On paper the idea is interesting but does it also need the profitable freight arm included to help reduce fares,?
    • Another recommendation here for Jason.  He came to plaster over a section of ceiling that we had to remove in order to investigate a leak.  He is a really lovely guy, easy to get in touch with and great communication.  He was quick, tidy and competitively priced.  Very happy and I'd have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone.
