sociable cycle ride to the closed roads in the city

this is the Lord Mayors Show Ride -- not so much to the show as the the roads closed before it. The police tolerate cyclists for a while though the riders have to make themselves scarce once the parade gets going. You can stop and watch the parade (or a bit of it). A rather confused picture from last year is attached.

For over 800 years the newly elected Lord Mayor of London has polished the coach, fed the horses and set off on a trip from the City to Westminster to swear loyalty to the Crown. Most of the time he(and he has usually been a he) has had to manage without a group of cyclists preceding him but we are doing this for the fourth time and moving from "let's give it a try" to "it's the custom" and presumably on (through the centuries) to ?traditional? and ?historic?.

The ride on November 10th starts at 10am at Canada Water, Deal Porter Square SE16 7AR and finishes two hours later in the same place. This is next to Canada Water Library and opposite Canada Water Station. A report of last year's ride is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/lord-mayors-show-healthy-ride/. It's the usual easy-paced ride over a quiet route, in this case exploring parts of the City. Leader Werner. Everyone welcome.

As an additional special treat please consider Southwark Cyclists AGM which is at 6.30 on Nov 14th at 41 Grosvenor Park, Camberwell. The guest speaker will be Michael Barrett MBE, TfL Road Safety Patrols. More details here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/events/agm-and-monthly-meeting/.

Presumably there will be refreshments at some point but there will also definitely be short annual report on these Healthy Rides by organiser Bruce Lynn himself - an opportunity to suggest ways to make them even better! All ideas welcome. All cyclists welcome. To vote you will need to be a member of the London Cycling Campaign but nothing as exciting as a vote is expected.
