I found Beckenham Spa pool quite quiet when we went - likewise my 2yr old doesn't like noise and she was ok. I think we managed to avoid the full-on-kids periods - which may be harder if you 5yr old is in school and a bit restricted in times. Perhaps earlier mornings would work.
Hi, there have been a lot of changes in staff at dulwich nursery recently, but I'm sure it will settle down once they've appointed a new Manager. my youngest settled in very well in the babyroom, due in part to the fact that she had been collecting my eldest child with me twice a week since she was a newborn. She knew all the staff and it must have felt very familiar to her when I went back to work. However, the last 3/4 weeks she has cried on a few occassions when we have dropped them off. I'm sure this is all down to the staff changes. I feel confident things will settle down though.
I just wanted to add that I totally under estimated the amount of stress my eldest child was going through when I was heavily pregnant and in those 1st few months with a new baby in the family (she was 22 weeks when new baby arrived). I had just started her at dulwich nursery when I was 37 weeks pregnant, like you had just started maternity leave, thinking she would settle in really easily, she was always very confident and outgoing. But she hated it, cried when we left her etc too much change I guess. Although the staff assured us she was happy most of the time once we'd gone. It took 3/4 months before she really started wanting to go, but now she has made friends and nursery days are a treat day.
I hope it works out for your little one in the babyroom. I really do like Dulwich nursery and would recommend it. they do take the babies into the main room and garden alot, there is lots of singing and dancing and story telling. The activities are right for the age of the toddlers on that particular day (on our days most seems to be about 16/17 months) and you get a full report at the end of the day. My little one has learned so much in 5 months. I like to fact that the babyroom is small with limited capacity, it is homely. I hope I have put your mind at rest and you keep him at nursery, it will be such hard work looking after a new born and toddler 7 days a week, I really relied on my 2 nursery days to have a rest and spend some 121 time with the baby.
I hope he will be OK soon
all the best

Both of my children have just started at Ducks this term. My daughter is in the Reception Class and my son who is 2.5 has just started in the Duckling room of the Kindergarten.

Just wondered if there were any other Ducks parents out there with similar aged kids, who fancied getting to know each other/together?
Thanks
> the massive drop in their results now they've
> stopped doing it. Down from 90% A-C's to 70% in a

No, Haberdashers used to offer places based on a combination of interview with the parents, interview with the child and a selection test. It's only in the past few years that they started random allocation over 9 ability bands based on non-verbal reasoning tests - and it's these children that are now taking their GCSEs.

Interestingly, Harris use exactly the same admissions method and their results keep going up. Which I expect is a reflection on the quality of teaching because lots of the best teachers left Askes when they changed their intake policy, whereas Harris continue to recruit talented staff.

Last year Aske's had to change their intake policy again and are now doing distance from school across 9 bands of ability. Lewisham LA really know how to run a good school into the ground.

You need to go when all the kids are there - it is a very good mix. And actually the current year 8 is predominately black - maybe becuase Kingsdale creamed off the white kids, (check Kingsdale OFSTED report remarks about their Y7 intake).
She works M-Fri in the City/ Barbican

But she works on Saturday from home & not far from you

She is a very good cutter of young boys hair & my youngest won't let anyone else near his head

I've tried others BUT she's very good

Otherwise, my eldest boy & I use the excellent Barry road Barbers in East Dulwich, near the Peckham Rye end

Activity Schedule

Hi Folks,
There are always so many good recommendations for activities on here, and I can't keep track of them all. I only really need activities for Mondays and Fridays, but I figured what the heck, if I'm going to make a schedule for myself I may as well make one for everybody. Attached is the one I've started. I know, it barely scratches the surface.

First sheet is for really local things. Second is for further afield, like day trips. Last one is for general activity related resources.

It's too bad that there isn't a facility on here for shared files so everyone could just update it with their favorite activities. Since there's not, here's what I propose:

Please suggest your favorite activities in the following format so I can just cut and paste:

First please state the day of the week, then
Name of Activity
Time
Location
Age group
Fee
web link

Every once in a while I'll update the sheet and recirculate.

Sound good? Enjoy.

5 year old swimming

Hello there,

I've yet to really take my five year old swimming but think he'd finally like to go. Can anyone recommend classes/a pool that aren't too manic. he's pretty sensitive to noise so I'd really like to try and find somewhere relatively calm/quiet.

Any ideas gratefully received.

My LO likes chewing on a clean, damp face flannel. "Sophie the Giraffe" teether from NCT is also quite popular. You can try offering her other things from around the house too, like a large plastic spoon or cold fruit. I notice that my LO often gets bored with things and I have to rotate them. And sometimes, she likes to chew on unexpected things... today it was the buttons on my mac!
