They wanted more to fit a new battery than I paid for the watch (I bought a new watch :)) )

You can buy a half dozen watch batteries for a couple of quid on Epay. In many cases a speccial tool is not required. Even if you have to buy the the tool to twist off the cover is not expensive - frm 99 pence to ?3. Then you have the tool for life.

Not being funny, but how long do they last? About a week?!

Me too. There's plenty of guidance on the net on how to do it. Pound shops also have sets of small screwdrivers if you need one to to remove screws from the case or the cell mounting. You can also get very cheap watch back remover tools via aliexpress. I only needed one for a more expensive waterproof watch. In most cases a firm penknife blade or similar was enough. Some watches may have or recommend silver oxide cells (type name begins with an 'S'). These are a little bit more expensive. Keeping the cells in the fridge helps their shelf life.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone and sorry for taking so long to respond.

I went to the dry cleaners next to the post office, as suggested on here.

My watch now tells the correct time all day instead of just twice a day!

they are a joke. If your watch is supposed to be water resistant the company claims that they need a special machine to re-assemble it...even if you say you don't care if it's water resistant anyway....and asked me for ?18 when a battery costs about ?5 for 10

    • I can recommend John Hudson. I've been taking lessons with him since last year and he's very good. He teaches most styles. You can find his contact details on his website - https://www.johnhudsonguitar.co.uk/
    • Hello, I was carrying my sleeping toddler on Sunday afternoon (21st April) and must have been pretty distracted and dropped my jumper from my bag. Iwas walking from Crystal Palace and then getting the 363 to The Gardens near Peckham Rye Park. Somewhere I seemed to have lost my favourite green jumper - is bright green, cashmere, from John Lewis, in case anyone spots it. Thank you! (Have phoned the bus garage too).
    • And what would you suggest for cyclists that also flout the rules?  Crush their bikes at the same facility that crushes errant drivers cars ?  Same rules and punishment must  apply to all road users (except runaway horses of course)
    • I'm looking for a guitar teacher for my 17 year old son. In terms of music that he likes, he says he's interested in learning fingerpicking (although I guess he needs to learn the basics first!). He listens to quite a lot of acoustic guitar stuff as well as indie stuff, has a curious interest in Japanese pop and loves folk too. Ideally we would be looking for someone who could do one-to-one lessons at my flat, which is 5 minutes walk from Honor Oak tube station.
