messageHealth and well-being support group for women
Posted by tomskip 22 November, 2018 09:47

Hello Forum,

I thought Iíd see if thereís any interest out there in forming a group for women to meet and support each other in achieving goals in improved fitness, physical well-being, mental well-being and weight loss? My thinking is that there are proven benefits to working in a group to achieve goals like these, but the more prescriptive commercial groups like Weight Watchers and Slimming World just donít suit some people (me being one of them!). Iím imagining a group of, say, 10/15/20 women meeting once a week for a couple of hours, for mutual support and encouragement, ideas swapping, finding exercise buddies and so on - with the focus on improving all round physical health and happiness (weight loss being a definite aim but not the overarching focus of every discussion). I am female and middle aged, generally pretty cheerful and healthy but would like to get rid of some of the poundage that has joined me since I was 40. If you feel you might like to meet up with me and similar women (all ages!) and get a group off the ground then please get in touch via PM. Many thanks, Jackie.

That sounds like the community exercise group that meets on Peckham Rye at 10am on Saturdays (assume it's still going).

I would be interested in joining a group like this. I am also female, middle aged and would like to shed a few pounds. Swapping ideas would be useful. And someone to go to the gym with .......

Gently bumping this post for the New Year. Still hoping to add to our group to get together and support each other in moving onwards and upwards in 2019. Please let me know via pm if you would be interested. Thanks! Jackie.

I thought this was mixed (a few years ago anyway)

Hi Jackie,
Have you had much interest in this or any luck with getting this started? I am a personal trainer and love the idea of local people coming together, encouraging each other to get moving and get healthier! If a group has come together I would like to come by and offer a bit of support if my diary allows and if you'll have me!
Thanks, Harriet
