ULEZ exempt

I have three cars - two run around Citroen C3s for me and my wife and one Volvo V70 estate for family outings and holidays. They are all pre-2006 petrol models, so I thought we'd have to pay the ULEZ - but when I checked they're are all exempt, but the Guardian at the weekend said most 2006 models would be charged. So that's great, I don't need to worry and we can all carry on driving as normal.

ULEZ was announced by BJ about four years ago and there has been plenty about it since on social and normal media, information campaigns, consultation etc so surprised how people are waking up to it now. TfL's checker is date based and can get things wrong occasionally. Here's a guide to emissions standards. Yes I know shed loads about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_emission_standards

Yes, I checked it on the TfL website - none of the three cars are eligible for paying the ULEZ, even though they're all pre-2006 petrol cars.

Once a scheme is in place, the rules can be changed. can be made stricter.

Prices can be increased like the congestion charge.

Believe me, Thin end so to say.

What next. Under Occupancy Fee ??? Perhaps I should not of mentioned that.

do not want to put ideas into anyones head.

I have owned many cars/ vans. I scrapped my car in February. I have no intention to buy another one.

The Motorist is an easy target for Cash Strapped Councils to make money. I've had enough of it.

I have a Bus/Train Pass I don't need a car. Most of the time I walk on short journeys like Peckham Forest Hill

Even sometimes to Brixton.

No I am not a Doom Master. I am a realist.

I checked and my car is eligible for the ULEZ and the 2021 expansion. As it stands, I don?t use the vehicle as often as I used to, mostly for supermarket runs and days out to Bromley or Bluewater. If and when this new scheme takes hold, I will re-evaluate my car ownership, but won?t be worrying about it until then.

As Foxy says above, car drivers are a easy target for local government. It?s a disgrace really, and doesn?t affect people with money, but does cause problems for elderly drivers reliant on shopping trips.

TfL have changed the checker. It used to be date based but now it uses the emissions data held by (I think) DVLA.

A couple of years ago my car, a 2003 plate petrol, was showing as ULEZ non-compliant because it was too old. I recently checked it again on a whim and it's now showing as ULEZ compliant because the actual exhaust emissions meet the required standards.

    • I have had two separate incidents of moped drivers deliberately crashing into our car which I believe is part of a wider insurance scam. From what I can gather, they target female drivers who are alone or with kids in high value vehicles (of which I was one). On both occasions for me this involved a moped driver signalling to me to cross a junction and when I pulled away driving deliberately and at speed into the car. Then Jumping up and immediately taking photographs and videos of the car. I’m expecting a bogus insurance claim to follow. i’m posting this in part for awareness and also out of interest to see if it’s happening to other people. One of my friends has also been targeted in a similar way.   If this does happen, please report it to the police and your insurance company. Unfortunately, the police haven’t pursued, my cases and to be honest it doesn’t matter as no one was hurt and there was minimal damage, but this is dangerous practice and the more people that report it the more likely it is the action will be taken.   Has anybody witnessed this or had a similar thing happened to them?
