What are you suggesting. TheArtfulDogger? My accountant assures me my Cayman Island account is quite normal, and as for remortgaging next door's house when they put it up for sale, via my legal website, well, doesn't everybody?

It's an old common scam.

Your Internet and I.P. has NOT been compromised (in Many Countries) as suggested.

You will NOT be arrested if you do not press (1).

Do Not Press (1) If you do you will be taken through a process that requests you to download

software that will interrogate you P.C. and steal you secure DATA. and possibly/probably you Bank Details.

Just clear down and get on with the rest of your day.

You have nothing to worry about.

I get this same Scam call 2 - 3 times a week. Often early morning 09.00am

Another one says Your internet will be disconnected today.

Press (1) to speak with the B.T. Technical Department.

B.T. NEVER contact its customers this way.

Thanks, DulwichFox. I didn't press anything, of course, and like you, I get numerous calls a bit like this. But it's the first time I've been threatened with arrest, which could seriously frighten a vulnerable person

Phoned number someone answered hello inland revenue.before they could say anything else, called them every swear word I could think of ,then they just hung up which I thought was very rude.

Yeh, I tend to ask them how much they are being paid to spout this crap, and tell them they should be ashamed of themselves :))

But I don't get many spam calls, maybe one a month on my mobile (that's tempting fate, isn't it .....) but then I have my landline on permanent voicemail, so they tend to hang up as soon as they get to the message ......

If I get a real person...

Car accident scams; I tell them I was involved in a car accident and I know who was driving the car, but don't know if he lives in Florida or Paris - it was a clown car and all the doors fell off. I ask them if they know where Mickey Mouse lives. They hang up.

Or just ask them "Is that Aunt Sally? What do you want for tea?" etc. They hang up.

I'm wondering whether you are more than one-dimensional TB. It's easy to mock the middle classes, I do, and that includes being self-deprecating. Some posts on this website are so fingers down the throat East Dulwich and pompous it is difficult not to.

But would it be too much to ask to add some value to the debate rather than sarcasm? I've been abusive, hung up, tried to teach them the errors of their ways and the like with scam calls. There, I have an opinion. Do you? To take them through to the point of sale and then suggest they get a job where they are not exploiting vulnerable people may not matter a jot but at least I try to do something. https://fatherted.fandom.com/wiki/Father_Jessup

  • 1 month later...

I had one of those automated accident hotlines just called

The ones that start with a pause, a lady saying hello, a pause then my name is "whatever" I understand you've been involved in an accident (a recorded message)

I started yelling yes I've been in an accident over and over till her "supervisor" took over who asked what happened and I cried down the phone saying a Lorry has just run me over and the ambulance crew are there now and are talking about cutting limbs off to get me out from under it

Screamed and hung up

Suspect I'm now blacklisted on that number 👍

I used to get contacted by solicitors telling me I would be taken to court for unpaid debts by tenants. I said good, particularly as I didn't have a contract with the utility at that address. Otherwise to stop sending me threatening quasi-legal letters. It wasn't a scam but I am reminded of that.
